The weather has started to become chilly in Seoul lately. Shades of golden leaves are falling from the trees as we enter the fall season, creating a beautiful natural scenery in the midst of this bustling city.
I pulled out two cardigans from the closet, trying to decide in front of the mirror on which I should wear to work today. "The black or the khaki colour one?" I chose the khaki one in the end, matched it with a simple white tshirt and a pair of skinny jeans. I then put on a light natural make up for my daily look, picked up my tote bag and locked my apartment's door while trying to wear my white sneakers with the other hand.
I enjoy walking to work every day, although it's just a short 5 minutes walk to the building. I had my earpods on as usual while admiring the views and people on the streets. I don't really have a fixed playlist, but I listen to random songs that Spotify would shuffle for me because I love discovering new songs, I guess in a way it inspires my creativity.
*Beep*
I scanned my ID card attached to the land yard on my neck on the scanner in order to gain access to my company's building. This building has a super strict security system, surveillance cameras are installed everywhere and security guards are seen at every corner 24/7. I nodded and smiled to the guards at the lobby who I see everyday before making my way up to the 3rd floor using the elevator.*Ding*
The elevator doors opened. I walked to my work room which is the very last room at the corner. All the staffs are free to pick whichever room they wish to use for the day, as long as it is not registered and occupied by another person in the online booking system."Hello babies! Let's start working, shall we?" I said as I entered and did a little happy silly dance to start my day. I nonchalantly swept away some fine dust on my babies - the microphone, piano keyboard, earphones, computer, sound systems etc.
I key in the password to login to the computer, along with the login tune it displayed: Welcome back, Chelsea. - JYPE
I have been working at JYP Entertainment for almost 2 months, a reowned and leading entertainment company in Korea that has produced tons of famous artists worldwide, more commonly known as Kpop idols. Now you know the reason why we need to have such a tight security around, it is mainly to prevent fans, reporters and unauthorised personnel from coming into the building without permission and to protect not just the artists, but everyone working here.
Due to the great amount of staffs, trainees and idols here, not everyone knows everybody personally as each personnel has one's own working scope and may already been paired to specific groups only.
And no, I'm not an idol here. I work as an in-house songwriter, I create tracks, songs and write lyrics for the artists in the company. Music is my life, I put my heart into each and every song I compose and all the lyrics I have written. I'm grateful for this opportunity, I have come a long way for this.
Alright, seems like I have quite a few things to finalise today before I submit them to the CEO tomorrow. I clicked to open the song files on the computer. I then raised my arms high up to have a good stretch, getting ready to work.
"OUCHHH!"
Suddenly I felt a sharp pain at the back of my right hand. I retracted my hands from the air and checked on it. There was a huge bulge, swollen and bright red. I looked up and found a small beehive at the corner of the ceiling. I was stung by a bee?! A few bees seemed to have been disturbed and now they looked like they were coming to attack me again.
"Oh my god, what am I supposed to do?"
I panicked. There was no point shouting for help since the rooms on this floor are all soundproof.
RUN CHELSEA, RUN!
My brain told me so. My legs finally followed its command and I ran as fast as possible out of the room. I quickly slammed the door closed, luckily none of the bee managed to come out of it. I let out a sigh of relief and sat on the floor leaning against a wall.
"Ugg..." I groaned in pain while holding my right hand. It looked so sore and swollen up now, the pain started to sting so bad as if I could feel the venom rushing through my vein. I had to see a doctor immediately.
I tried to get on my legs and suddenly I felt my head spinning. "Oh no, what's going on?" This was my first time being stung by a bee, I was not sure if this was normal. But I didn't think I could get to a clinic on my own now.
I turned my head to look around the corridors for help without getting up, but there was absolutely no one. It was getting more and more painful now, as if it was burning, it was almost unbearable with the progressive dizziness.
Unable to gain the strength to stand up, I crawled to the room next to mine. With the last bit of energy, I knocked on the door as hard as I can, hoping that someone was inside, and hopefully without any earphones on.
No one responded.
I sighed. With so little strength left and the searing pain, it was impossible to crawl to the next door. I tried knocking at the same door again, but the knocks sounded so soft. Please, I hoped it was enough to be heard if someone was inside. Please.
My eyes started to well up due to fear and pain. I felt so helpless. Damn, how could a tiny bee make me so miserable?
Suddenly, a creak of the door indicated someone was opening it. A pair of black leather boots appeared at my eye level as I was supporting myself on the elbows on the ground. I wanted to lift my head up to see who that person was.
"Hey, are you okay? Hey, stay with me! Hey!"
My vision became blurry, I can't seem to make an image of who the person was. But it was a man's voice, the voice of my life saviour, he sounded nervous yet still warm and angelic. I could feel that he was squatting down beside me while holding on my shoulders to stabilise me from falling onto the ground.
"Thank you for hearing my knocks." I thought to myself. My vision went from blurry, to pitch black.
The pain is gone now.
