"iris?" i ask, and she looks up at the doorway from her bed, giving me a small smile and looking at nick.
"can you guys give us a minute?" she asks, looking from nick to moonie, lilly, and matt.
"yeah, totally." nick says, standing up from his chair at the end of iris' bed and walking to the door, giving me a quick hug while matt rubs my shoulder.
"good luck." moonie whispers, and lilly gives me a reassuring smile as i walk into iris' room, shutting the door behind me.
"so?" i ask, and she shrugs.
"tell me about us." she says, and i raise my eyebrows.
"like what about us?"
"well, what's our favorite thing to do together?"
"we sit on your back porch, you wax your surfboard and i play music, we talk and drink soda, i bring over food, and then we go to the beach and i watch you surf." i explain, and iris nods.
"can you be like... i don't know, what's the best thing we've done together?" she asks and i shake my head.
"it's hard to pick one, but probably that time we went to the fair with matt and nick and i threw my arm out to win you a stuffed koala." i answer with a smile.
"do i still have it?" she asks, and i nod.
"it's on your bed, same spot all the time." i tell her, and she smiles.
"i hate that i don't remember you, it sounds like we had so much fun together." she says sadly, and i nod, moving the chair around to be next to her bed.
"we did, i wish you remembered." i whispered, and she nodded, laying her hand out towards me, and i wanted to take it, but hesitated.
"i'm not gonna bite, it's okay." she mumbled, and i laughed quietly before putting my hand on top of hers.
"when i get out of here, we can start over." iris whispers, laying her head on my shoulder as best she can from the bed.
"sounds like a plan."
"can you call the others back in here, i want you guys to tell me all the other stuff i don't remember." iris asked, and i nodded, taking my phone out of my pocket, seeing i had a text from moonie.
