Julia sat next to ellie playing with her knife before noticing that ellie was awake the girl sat up her back facing away from joel and tess ellie turned looking at joel and tess while they we're giving her dead stares.

"morning" ellie said turning her whole body towards them she moved to get up but joel stopped her point his gun towards her she got the hint before sitting back down next to julia "do we look like we're infected?" ellie said

"show us your bites" joel said stopping her ellie pulled up her arm sleeve while julia pulled up her pants leg

they looked at it tess leaning to the side to get a better look at it "yeah, it's not getting any worse, is it" ellie retorted joel and tess turned to each other seeming to be communicating in a way "if we're out in the open city, why aren't we getting swarmed" ellie questioned

"don't worry about that" "well i'm gonna"

"what was marlene doing with two infected kids?" tess asked "we're not infected" julia says staring at tess "she found me after i was bitten" ellie says "and she didn't shoot you" "clearly not"

"she locked us up and had her guys test us everyday to see if we were getting sick" julia says playing with the grass ellie doing the same 

"Test you how?"

"i have to pee" ellie says ignoring her  question from before "test you, how?" tess says repeating her question from before "they'd make us count to ten and hold out our hand and keep it steady" julia says seeing ellie wasn't

"but you know, i think what really impressed them was the fact that we didn't turn into a fucking monster." ellie says adding onto julia's words 

"now can i please" ellie says getting up 

at the same time joel gets up his gun still trained on her "fine" tess says "back there you can find a spot" ellie turns to go before tess stops her "and here"

 she says throwing a magazine at her ellie catchs it "tear out a few pages

"there's not gonna be anything bad in here?" "just you" "oh funny" 

Ellie gone the two adults turned to the other girl as she avoids eye contact

"you her sister?" Joel asks making Julia turn to his attention "no... do we-...do we look alike, why does everyone keep asking that?"

in Julia's opinion the girls were nothing alike and but everyone seemed to think so.

ellie comes back julia behind her ellie throws the magazine back to tess before going back to where she was sitting julia besides her "you hungry?" tess  questions she pulls out a bag "you can share some of ours" she offers

"thanks marlene sent us with our own"

"joel and tess watch as the two girls eat their sandwiches tess swallows what she had in her mouth before speaking to the two "is that chicken?" she says staring at ellie "yeah, marlene said they get it from smugglers" she said tapping her sandwich "guess not you guys"

she goes back to eat her sandwich but tess gets up going to stand in front of her "why-" "Hey. hey" joel tries to stop her she stops him putting her hand out "why are you so important to marlene?"

she says putting her hands in her pocket

"and don't lie to me or we'll take you back" "you take us back you don't get your battery" ellie says looking up at her  tess scoffs "you heard that?" ellie shrugs her right shoulder up still munching on her sandwich

"then you must've heard that he wants to shoot you" ellie looks at her before her eyes drift to joel, tess crouch's down in front of julia and ellie "i'm gonna talk to you like you're an adult. okay?"

"joel and i aren't good people, we're doin' this for us because apparently, you're worth something" ellie glares at her "but we don't know what you're worth if we don't know what we have so answer my question" ellie rolls her eyes setting down her sandwich her hand covering her face

"she told us not to tell anyone, and now i'm telling the first people that i-" she stops herself slightly knocking on her forehead with her knuckles before crossing her arms 

"There's a firefly base camp somewhere out west, with doctors they're working on a cure" she says looking at tess 

"i've heard this before" "and whatever happens to us is the, key to finding the vaccine" ellie says joel joining in on the last part "that's what this is?, we've heard this a million times, vaccines, miracle cures. none of it works ever"

"Fuck you, man. we didn't ask for this" ellie says standing up "you and me both" he says to ellie before turning to tess "this isn't gonna end well, Tess we need to go back" joel says to the woman

she stands up looking at joel her hand on her hip "let's just finish it it doesn't matter if she is or she isn't what the fireflies say. if they believe that she is then, we get what we want"

joel nods his head slightly before the both of them turn to ellie joel shakes his head looking back at tess "if she so much as twitches" joel says 

at that ellie begins imitating a clicker making Julia smile "Don't" tess snaps at the girl and she clears her throat scratching at her neck "okay" she nods her head, julia chuckles softly 

"okay"

tess says now turned to joel "okay" he says softly before going to get his stuff tess motion to the two girls to get their packs before going to her things

ellie opens her backpack puting her jacket in before looking over at joel she notices his gun "can i have a gun" she says still looking at it "absolutely not" "no" the two adult are quick to dismiss her

"okay, jesus. fine, i'll just have to throw a fucking sandwich at them" ellie says saying the last part quieter as she puts her sandwich in her bag
