Noah POV

I wandered down the school pathway with Alex beside me talking animatedly. It had been the same thing for six years now, ever since we became best friends.

***FLASHBACK***

I was a much smaller, chubbier version of myself, walking to school like any other day. The over-cast above soon turned to drizzle, wetting my blonde hair turning my ends curly. As I reached the school entrance, I paused to take a breath, then trudged forward. I blinked a couple times, my eyes adjusting to the dim lights inside.

I suddenly felt a strong force against my back sending me sprawling forward onto the hard ground. As I struggled to get up I felt someone's knee jab into my spine making me cry out in pain.

"What's wrong piggy?" They taunted, laughing to each other.

I sobbed quietly, my vision obscured by the floor underneath me, forced to listen to them going through the contents of my bag.

You would think I would be used to this now, the same thing happening for two years. But these boys seems to always think up new ways to torment and bully me.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" I heard a female voice growl.

Suddenly the weight on my back was lifted, giving me a chance to regain my footing. As I looked up I noticed a small dark haired, dark eyed girl the voice had come from.

She looked pissed.

Her hands were clenched into fists as I watched her take a swing at the boy standing closest to my bag holding my lunch. He cried out in pain, falling backwards while dropping my lunch and slamming his head against the lockers.

I gasped, looking at the shocked faces of the other boys. They slowly backed away, turning to run. As soon as the boys were out of sight the girl turned to me, giving me a toothy grin.

She spun oh her heel, beginning to walk away in the opposite direction but she suddenly stopped to retrieve whatever was left of my lunch off the ground. At this point I had picked up the remaining contents of my bag from off the floor and walked towards her.

"Thank you" I whispered, my voice barely audible.

She smile sweetly at me.

"Let's me friends"

I nodded, eager to accept her offer.

From that day on, we were inseparable, we walked to and from school together everyday and I never got bullied again.

***PRESENT TIME***

"... Such an ass" I caught the end of Alex's sentence, nodding and smiling as if I knew what she was talking about. I wasn't the same small, shy, chubby boy I used to be. Ever since I joined the rugby team I had definitely muscled up quite a bit. Also with Alex by my side, nobody dared mess with us.

Alex's POV

I laughed, looking into Noah's ocean blue eyes. I had to admit to myself, he was rather good looking, but I've never thought of him in more than a friend way.

I heard a commotion going on around 50m in front of me, a boys deep voice taunting a higher squeaky one.

Damn it Lucas.

My fists clenched as I turned corner, a pair of piercing green eyes meeting my own. Spotting me, he dropped the squirming year 9, the little boy landing with a thud.

The crowd of people slowly dispersed as they realized the action was over.

Slightly ruffled, the year 9 boy made a run for it while he could.

"I thought I smelled a pig." I growled, taking a few steps towards him.

"And I thought there was a no dog policy as this school" he retorted, a cocky smirk forming on his face. He closed the distance between us, his height looming over me. I stood my ground, unaffected by his piercing glare.

"If there's a no dog policy, why does your girlfriend go here?" I smirked, watching his face go red with anger.

While I had the element of surprise I lunged at him using the force of my weight to knock him over. The next thing I knew I was being dragged off Lucas and chucked over Noah's shoulder heading in the opposite direction.

"Let me go!" I screamed while struggling to get out of Noah's tight grip.

"Why do you always go round picking fights with people twice your size? He sighed.

From down the hall I heard Lucas yell something incoherent, something about after school and involving the word bitch.

"You know what he's like though!" I complain, " he picks on anybody smaller than him just to make himself feel tough. He deserves to be hit."

He never used to be like this though, believe it or not, less than a year ago we used to be close friends.

"But I have to admit..." Noah said, interrupting my thoughts, "getting into a fight with Lucas Elliot.. You have more balls than a gymnasium!"

I laughed at his comment, letting his pun lighten my mood.
