Jay sat up in his bed immediately regretting agreeing to all the meetings that were planned for his day. He looks out the window to see the sun rising over the gray walls that have trapped him since he was a young prince. Oh, how he wished he could leave this metaphorical prison that has been created by overprotective parents. With a sigh, Jay threw off the blanket that was holding all the heat around his body. He shivered as his feet touched the cold hardwood floor. The need for a rug coming back to his mind.
His maid knocked on the door asking for permission to come in.
A simple "Yep!" told her that she was allowed in. As soon as she walks in she goes straight to the bathroom to run a bath for Jay and puts his towel and soap on the ledge of the tub.
"It's all set for you, I'll pick out your clothes while you're in there." She said walking in with a bright smile laying on her lips.
"Thank you, Sam," Jay replies, walking into the bathroom and stripping out of his night clothes. He relaxed as he sunk into the comforts of the warm water, it was like a hug from the sun.
Jay often enjoyed Sam's company, she had been his maid and best friend since he was little. Jay's parents were always busy and out of the castle, which caused Sam to have to raise the young prince. The sweet elderly lady was one of the most beautiful women Jay had ever seen. Her jet-black hair reached just below her waistline and her face was perfect even for her age. Light freckles dusted her cheeks and she always wore a bright comforting smile on her perfectly shaped lips. She looked like a beautiful painting with the most amazing personality.
"Jay!" Sam said as she knocked on the door, "You've got a big day ahead of you Prince, it's time to get out and get ready."
Jay smiled at her sweet voice. Even though he was seventeen she still talked to him like he was still the young prince she first started working for, which was very comforting considering he didn't have much of a childhood. Jay rose from the warm water and wrapped himself in a towel. He listened for Sam's retreating footsteps before he opened the door. On his bed was an outfit that Sam had laid out for him. The outfit consists of a white tunic, black slack pants, and a belt. He quickly put it on and ran down the stairs to get something from the kitchen.
"Jay! What have I told you about running the house?!" Jay's Mother shouts as he enters the kitchen. Jay looks down in defeat, his parents are very strict and proper people..
"Sorry Mother," Jay says sitting in the seat across from her and his Father at the long table. "I'm just a little excited for today."
"I hope that's not what you're wearing when the guests get here, I don't want the other clans to think we've got homeless people living in our house." Jay's Father said looking at Jay's barely tied tunic, causing the prince to roll his eyes.
"I don't see anything wrong with it, we're going to be in meetings all day anyway," Jay replies with a shrug.
Mother rolls her eyes at him knowing there is no way she could change the young boy's mind. Jay hated dressing in the "prince attire", it was always too tight and the fabric was rough to the touch. He preferred his clothes to be loose and breathable. He couldn't understand why they wanted him to be so dressed up to sit in meetings all day. Yes, he knew that the kings of the other clans were coming to join the meeting but he didn't want to dress or act, like someone he wasn't. There was no need to impress them, they were coming for meetings, not a fancy dinner.
Father had already made all of the maids and butlers double and triple clean the castle, even though there was no reason, their place was always in pristine condition. They wanted people to think that they were the perfect family, even though his dad was an alcoholic and his Mother's face never held a true and honest smile.
Once Jay was finished with his breakfast he stood from his seat and ignored his mother's shouts as he ran back up the stairs. He ran to his bathroom and brushed his now partially damp hair. With a sigh, he looked at himself in the mirror.
His hair was short on the sides behind his ears and the rest was long (mullet basically). He inherited his mom's hair which is why it was thick and curly. The dark circles under his eyes showed the lack of sleep he had been getting due to the night terrors he suffered from since he was a child. Jay looked at his outfit in the mirrors hanging on the door to the bathroom, it was missing something. Jay thought for a second before running to the large dresser in his room.
Out of the jewelry box sat on his dresser, he pulled out a handful of rings, choosing a silver one for almost all of his fingers. Looking at himself once more causes him to run to his closet and pick out his favorite pair of platform combat boots. Looking once more and smiling at himself, the outfit was perfect and comfortable.
