The car jerked slightly to the left as Joseph dodged a corpse that had been walking in the middle of the road. I grabbed the handle above me and held Ben with my other arm as he stabilized the car back on the road. "I hate those things." I heard him mumble to himself. You and everyone else in the truck, Joesph. I thought to myself as I looked out the window.

We had left our spot in the clearing as soon as the sun came up. I had been in the passenger seat with Ben sitting on my lap. We were trying to make room for one of the guys. Zoey was currently sitting between Aria and Tobias. Jasper and Kai were still sitting in the bed of the truck. They decided they would take turns. Tobias just drew the longest blade of grass when they were arguing on who got to go first.

After about a two-hour drive, we were in Texas.

Aria said that we were not far from the base. We could even see the mountain in the distance.

I knew that they wouldn't let me into the base. They would never let someone who is infected go into a secured area. It didn't bother me as much as I thought it would because even though I wouldn't be there with them, they would be safe.

A small pressure appeared on my shoulder, pulling me out of my thoughts and back to the present. I looked at my shoulder and saw Aria's hand. "Are you okay?" she whispered to me. She didn't want to wake the sleeping boy in my lap. Ben wasn't used to waking up so early, so he had been sleeping since we left the clearing.

"Yeah, just glad we're going to be somewhere safe." I lied before sending her a smile, hoping that it seemed like I was excited. Aria immediately gave me a concerned look, somehow, she could always see through my facades. "I'm fine, I promise." I whispered before facing forward, no longer wanting to be interrogated.

Suddenly one of the tired burst and the truck started to violently shake. I grabbed hold of Ben's waist and pulled his body close to mine as the truck started to go off the road. The truck started to shake even more. "Shit!" Joseph shouted as he struggled to control the steering of the car. I looked out the windshield and noticed a few apple trees. "Grab Ben!" I screamed as I quickly moved the boy over to the backseat.

My hands went up to the dashboard as I looked out the window. The last thing I saw was the apple tree before I was jerked against the seatbelt. A white air bag deployed in front of me, hitting me in the face. Pain erupted through my face and skull as I was flung back into my seat, knocking the air out of my lungs. I gasped.

"Is everyone okay?" I heard Joseph ask after grunting out in pain. "Ow." I heard Ben softly cry, although he was in pain, he was okay. When my breath returned to me, I sighed in relief.

I could feel something warm run down my lips. Without thinking I licked my bottom lip, and immediately tasted the iron of my blood. Hesitantly, I raised one of my hands to my nose and felt the gash on my nose. The air bag most likely broke my nose. As the pain started to grow, I cursed to myself.

My door opened and I saw Aria holding her hand out for me to grab. I unbuckled my seatbelt before unsteadily climbing out of the car. Despite the pain in my face, everything else felt fine.

Aria led me to the back of the truck where everyone was standing. Zoey was standing beside Tobias, holding Ben's hand. Zoey and Tobias looked dazed but fine. Ben hand a small cut on the edge of his eyebrow. Kai and Jasper had dark marks around their elbows and chins, that would most likely bruise. Joseph has bleeding nose as well, but he looked fine.

"Damn Cora. That looks like it hurts." Kai tried to joke but winced when he tried pointing his arm in my direction. Jasper walked towards me and gently placed his thumbs on my cheeks, slowly moving towards my nose. "None of your facial bones are broken. And your nose isn't broken but I do need to reposition it. It will hurt." Jasper informed me, I nodded even though I did not want him near me and my bleeding nose.
