chapter 4

Satoko found herself slowly opening her eyes and yawning. As soon as she did she realised that this was not her room on her ship, where the hell was she?
Suddenly she remembered that she had come with Rika onto her ship to discuss why she became a pirate. She started to panic, what time was it? It was dark outside and there was the dim yet cozy light of an oil lamp lighting the room. She had to get back to her ship and her crew, they must be worrying right? They might think she had been killed!
Satoko tried to sit up but was stopped by a weight on top of her, she looked down to see Rika fast asleep on her chest, snuggled up to her.
"What the hell?" Satoko yelped in a flustered panic, she pushed Rika off her chest and stood up.
Rika hit the floor with a thud and an undignified whine. "Ruuudeee!" She sat up. "I was asleep, asshole!"
Satoko made an exasperated gesture at Rika. "You didn't have to fucking sleep on me, though, did you?"
"You're unnecessarily aggressive."
"SAYS THE BITCH THAT TRIES TO FIGHT ME EVERY DAY!"
Rika got up brushing herself off as Satoko made her way to the door, she had to get back to her ship and her crew.
Rika suddenly stopped Satoko by grabbing her wrist. "Wait."
Satoko sighed loudly, making an effort to make sure Rika heard it. "What the fuck do you want now?" Satoko didn't want to admit that the events just passed had flustered her greatly so she tried to make it seem like she was annoyed instead.
Rika blinked a little at Satoko's agitation. "W-well, you forgot your boots."
"Oh." Satoko averted her eyes from Rika, she just kept making a total fool of herself... Satoko picked up her boots, angrily shoving them on, this was not fair at all, being around Rika made her act like an idiot. "Thanks or whatever..." Satoko mumbled placing her hand on the door handle.
Rika stopped her again. "Would you not want to stay over? I'd like to talk some more, honestly, without all the rivalry bullshit we have going on."
Satoko shrugged speaking in an aggressively sarcastic tone. "Tough shit, I'm goin back to my ship, so let go of my damn wrist!"
Rika let go of Satoko's wrist and sighed in a way that Satoko could have sworn to be sadness, before picking herself up and smiling teasingly. "I'll be back for you tomorrow, so prepare to lose again like the weakling you are!"
Satoko chuckled leaving the room "Ohohoho, oh bet?" she waved back at Rika, feeling a little guilty for upsetting her but being to proud to just apologise.

Satoko returned to her ship and kicked Rika's planks back onto her ship with a grunt before turning to see her crew members and friends all staring at her wide eyed.
"You were gone for a while." Mion stated with a smirk. "What did you and your 'rival' get up to in all that time?"
Satoko scowled, this was starting to get frustrating. "And why is that any of your fucking business? We just talked, okay? Stop getting weird ideas." Satoko attempted to push past her crew but Rena stopped her.
"Don't be angry, it was an innocent question." Rena had a look of sympathy on her face.
Satoko sighed. "Yeah, sorry. I'm just tired, that woman is tiring."
Everyone looked between themselves before Rena gave Satoko a knowing glance and nodded.
They all looked like they were stopping themselves from saying something to avoid aggravating Satoko any more.
Satoko let out an irritated breath. "Okay, I'll bite, what is it?"
There was a long pause broken by Keiichi. "Tiring because she's making you feel emotions you don't know how to process?"
Satoko couldn't stop herself from kicking Keiichi in the knee "Shut up, bustard!" She paused. "Ugh.. that was too on the nose..." Satoko found herself giving the floor a death stare.
Satoshi raised a brow at Satoko's response and was about to speak before Rena interrupted, placing a hand on Satoko's shoulder. "You don't need to be so standoff-ish over catching feelings for someone, it's okay to fall in love..." Rena paused, starting make a slight squeal "That being said..." She wrapped Satoko in a tight hug, lifting her off the ground "Satoko is crushing on her rival! Kyuuuuute!" She squealed spinning Satoko around.
Satoko squirmed and kicked letting out several annoyed yells "Ah! Put me down, you blithering idiot! Unhand me!"
Rena put Satoko down letting out a nervous chuckle. "Sorry, sorry! I just couldn't help myself!"
Mion gave Satoko an awkward thumbs up. "We're happy for you, it might do you some good to have feelings for someone!"
Satoshi gave Satoko a quick pat on the head "Yeah, you should be happy to have fallen for someone, it's a good thing!"
Satoko was silent for a moment, this was something she'd rather not discuss like this, it was embarrassing. "Uh.. Thanks..." Satoko stared at the ground before deciding she would train, if she wanted to have any chance against Rika she would have to practice, Rika could show up at any moment, she certainly seemed to love doing that...
Satoko grabbed her sword walking to a clear space on the deck where a couple of training dummies were set up, these wouldn't help with beating Rika's speed but they would be good if Satoko wanted to start thinking about technique, which she hadn't yet.
She started swinging her sword at the dummy, Satoko hit hard and with intense force, she almost broke the dummy with her hit, maybe she shouldn't use so much strength against a person... That could end badly...
She thought for a moment before trying to put less build up in her swing, hitting from a shorter distance and adding more speed. Her attacks still leaned more towards strength than speed but we're less fatal now and more disarming.
This was all well and good, Satoko felt like she was really improving her technique but fighting a dummy is very different to fighting a person.
She had made up her mind, she would ask one of her crew members to help her train.

Satoko lightly tapped Keiichi with the side of her sword. "Oi, can you help me train? Grab a sword and let me practice on you."
Keiichi turned to Satoko. "Hm, okay, but don't expect me to go easy on you! I'll try to win with everything I have!"
