Another late night, another day without seeing Misaki. Usui finishes washing the dishes and checks his phone. No messages from her either, not anymore. Yet another reason he came up with such a plan to see her for a whole day.
Typically he gets a glimpse of her in the morning before he starts his day and is off to university. He'll make them both breakfast and leave hers with a note.
He'll text her when he's on lunch on the days she texts him 'good morning'. Which also doesn't happen anymore. They usually never have the same off days, he'll see her on the rare day she has nothing to do.
Then again Misaki spends her days off cooking for the both of them, cleaning the apartment, and studying. That's if she doesn't cover for someone at her job or picks up an extra shift. Usui has told her he would get a part time job to help out but she refuses to let him.
"I promised that when I moved in that I would be taking care of the both of us. Besides your school work load is too much already. I'm not letting things be harder on yourself."
While Usui agreed to these terms in the beginning he thought that maybe she would loosen up on them in due time. Six months in and nothings changed. Leading him to this sneaky plan; Misa chill out night.
First he calls her café manager and asks when her next day off is. She tells him without asking what he's planning and agrees to not let her pick up any shifts on that day. Next he goes grocery shopping to cook her favorite meal as well as everything that needed that week. Also deciding to make desert to go with the dish. All that's left now is the cleaning.
Usui had about two hours before Misaki would come home from university, barely enough time to clean everything. Saving the deeper cleaning for later, he starts prepping everything he needs to start cooking dinner when he hears the door open.
"Oh." Misaki says and closes the door behind her. "I thought you would be studying."
"It's good to give your brain a day of rest." He replies, rinsing his hands off before walking over to her. "I missed you." He smiles, taking her hand and lacing their fingers together.
She lightly squeeze's their hands, "I missed you more." Leaning up to kiss him. "Now let me start dinner-"
"Way ahead of you." He cuts her off, "I'm making your favorite tonight." He swings their interlocked hands slightly. "So don't worry."
She smiles back bitterly, "I thought we had a deal."
"Doesn't mean I can't do something nice for you. I know I already swept you off your feet but-"
"Takumi," Misaki threatens and pulls her hand away. "We had a deal-"
"I want to renegotiate-"
She ignores him and continues, "I would take care of everything when I moved in so that you won't have to worry."
And so, since Misaki is being - as usual - stubborn, Usui has to pull out an old move from highschool. He backs her against the wall and puts his hand on the wall, trapping her. "I'm worried about you Misaki." He gets in real close to her ear and whispers, "just let me, alright?"
She doesn't say anything as he walks back into the kitchen and acts like nothing happened. "I thought you were okay with this?"
"No of course not." He says, not looking at her. "But if that's what it took to have the chance to see you everyday then I would take it." When he did look up, her facial expression was painful. Mixed with guilt, angry and stress. "Baby just let me do this for you,. We can talk about everything else later, okay?" Bringing out the pet name to help smooth things over, yet another classic move from highschool.
She reluctantly agrees and heads off into their shared bedroom to change. She comes back out and leans against the kitchen counter, away from where he is working to avoid getting in his way. "How was your day?" He asks.
"The usual but we had a debate in class today. Our professor split us up and made each side pick someone to lead the group." She replies.
"And your group picked you?" He smiles at her.
"Unanimously." She sighs, "but still I think we had the best argument, we'll find out tomorrow at least. Anyway how was your day?"
"Pretty boring until a few minutes ago. Who knew someone could just brighten up your day just like that." He mutters to himself, "but it's nice to cook for that same someone too."
Misaki's facial expression changes again and she turns to look outside. "If you hate my cooking at much you could have said something."
"It's not that at all. Your cooking isn't nearly as bad as it was a few years ago." Usui covers the pot, turning to face her. "Letting me help out won't hurt me, Misaki. When was the last time you had someone cook for you?"
She still doesn't face him letting the room fall into silence. So he goes back to cooking, deciding to make desert another night. Everything was stale until they both got changed and went to bed.
"I'm sorry." Misaki whispers, her back turned away from him. "I got mad over nothing, and I'm sorry."
"There's no need to be sorry. You're the same hotheaded woman I fell for. But like I said I want to renegotiate that deal." He moves closer to her, "look at me." She turns to face him, "we're in this together, yeah?"
"Yeah." She whispers back.
"Then we help each other out. So I'll cook a few times a week and help out with the cleaning. I won't get a job yet since my work load is still high but if need be I will. Okay?" He grabs her hand and squeezes it.
"It's just hard to go from taking care of my family and leaving them. I think that I didn't want to impose or take advantage of you for letting me stay here. Honestly I don't get why you do-"
"Because I love you." He cuts her off, "and I know that you're doing this because you love me too but, seeing you work yourself half to death makes me feel like shit Misaki. And I know that you won't let me just take care of you so we meet half way."
"Okay." She says, moving closer to him. "We'll work together from now on."
Usui pulls her closer, having his arms wrapped loosely around her frame, planting a kiss on her forehead. "Now then go to sleep. I have a lot planned for tomorrow you know."
"Yeah yeah yeah." She rolls her eyes.
A few minutes pass and when Misaki is so close to being asleep, "hey." Usui nudges her.
"What?" She groans, resisting the urge to smack him.
"I love you."
"I love you too. Now fuck off before I kick you out."
How does one write something for an already cannon couple? And make it entertaining. Someone please tell me.
But anyway these two are one of my favorite shoujo couples and I hope I did them justice. Usui isn't very flirty since I feel like he would chill out with all that being in university. While Misaki would remain pretty much the same lol. Regardless I hope you enjoyed it.
Alright cool see you later.
