As I walk through the doors of the Building, I immediately see people unfamiliar to the morning Faculty. These people wore all the same outfits. It almost looked like combat uniform-all black from head to toe. Combat? Why would we go to war? If only they knew no one was out to get them.
Part of me wished I could just call out and say it was a misunderstanding. But was it really? Maybe this needed to happen. Though the quietness of life was a lot easier.
I walked past strangers, students, and scientists alike and tried to avoid direct eye contact.
"Morgan?" I hear call out from behind. The narrow hallways didn't give me much room to escape, so I slightly turn my heels to see my father looking down the hall, standing with three unfamiliar men.
He motioned his hand for me to come and I did so.
"Morgan, Id like you to meet Victor Kareen. He is the big boss around here." My father says as a man looking to be in his mid 40s and already starting to grey shows me his hand to shake. Seeing no other option I lift mine as well.
''Nice to meet you Mrs. Bellator. I hear your head of your class, My daughter follows closely behind as number four. "
"I suppose she doesn't take it as seriously " I think to myself as I only smile. I did in fact know his daughter. Kaylus Kareen. The foulest girl in the classroom. She caused trouble for everyone in that room and say harsh insults to anyone who had the bravery of walking past her. I only now understood why she wasn't ever written up, her father was the head guy. I always stayed clear of her, but weren't as lucky. Kaylus has jet black hair , light skin, and bright blue eyes. She was flawless which made it harder to hate her. Only when she wasn't looking did the other students call her 'Genetically modified' because it was un heard of to have her looks.
As I was thinking of his rat of a daughter, my eyes focused on the two men standing beside Victor and he seemed to catch on.
'' I'm sure you have heard about the break in here in floor 3. yes?" he asks and I nod.
''These men and women you see in the guards uniforms are our precautions for the time being, until this is all resolved. If you find out any information, please inform one of them." He informs me.
One guard, standing closer to my father, had a buzz cut and hazel eyes. About 25. He nodded at me and I looked to the other.
''That is Jack and this is Malum, he is head of all the people protecting this building. They answer to him and he answers to me.'' Victor added.
Malum was much taller than jack. He had a lighter blonde hair and his eyes were a hard dark blue with hints of hazel lingering, only of you looked long enough. One thing that outstood all his other features were the three little blue marks on the lower left side of his cheek. I knew it must be a birthmark and the little blue lines were veins. It definitely made him stand out more.
I nodded at him and he only watched. Knowing my internship class was about to start, I said my goodbyes to everyone and the entire time, Malum kept his cold gaze on me. As I walked away I felt the daggers of his stare burn into my back. I felt inferior to him . Could he read me that well? Could he tell I was apart of this? Jack seemed to greet me fine and suspect nothing.
But he isn't the head guard, is he?
I moved into a herd of my fellow internship classmates and slowly migrated into the class room.
Immediately I see a smashed picture frame on the floor and my heart stops. Sam had smashed the exact picture in what ever world we were just in. What did this mean? I knew I didn't have time to clean it up, but something would be brought up about it no doubt.
I decided to slip into a desk in the back of the class room. Opening my notebook, I review elements of the periodic table. My professor thought that maybe if we mix a few together, it could create something extravagant. But it was extremely dangerous also. I was going to graduate soon and the last thing we were supposed to do is create something that 'changes the world'
I was so positive I would finish top class and work alongside my parents, but this project was something I knew I couldn't just do. And eventually my mother would catch on to it. Id be a disgrace because I couldn't do what was expected. Every high class scientist has to take the same test, meaning my parents wouldn't be able to understand that I can't accomplish what they did so easily.
Professor Kapets walked in and scanned the room until his gaze met my worried eyes.
''Morgan, it appears I have misplaced my ID card, you didn't happen to find it while cleaning did you?" he asked nonchalantly, moving towards his desk.
'Yes, and I used it to break into floor three and steal confined pills'
''No, sir," I mutter.
''Clean? You call this clean?" Kaylus says in a disgusted voice, walking around the smashed frame.
Kapets looks towards her and the smashed frame and back at me.
"See me after Mrs. Bellator. Now class-" he says and continues a lecture about some elements I most likely should have paid more attention to. Instead, I nervously stared out the window, thinking of what lie I could come up with for Professor Kapets. I didn't see it? I wasn't there when it fell? Wasn't me? Nothing stood as a solid lie but coming clean wasn't an option.
Finally the class was dismissed, I being the only student left.
''What happened here Morgan? It isn't like you to avoid such a huge mess. I'm extremely disappointed in the way you followed procedures. And a major safety hazard. You could be written up for this." My eyes widened as he finished his sentence.
''I was sweeping when I knocked it over Sir, But I didn't have enough time to clean it up before I had to be home for curfew. I decided Id come in early and finish but other problems in the building prevented me to do so.'' I lied and it rolled of my tongue fluently with out skipping a beat.
I shocked myself with the quick reply but all the more ashamed of how happy I was that it worked.
''Very Well, but I do expect you to stay and clean tonight. And don't let this-" He says motioning to the scattered broken glass, "Happen again."
"It wont" I reply.
I had to clean the room spotless to ensure no write ups but I couldn't just leave Sam waiting at a time like this and still be back before curfew.
I couldn't balance all this at once, but if I dropped one thing, Id have to pay for its crime.
