He should have been here by now. Her round was nearing its end, and yet, he hadn't showed up.
Maybe it was for the better, for him not to show up. Maybe the decision she took was not the right one, maybe it would have ruined her life. She had thought for hours, days, her soul and body were wholly attuned with her mind as they all mulled over the simple question he had asked.
Simple, easily understood or done. A word taunting her hourly, daily, monthly, yearly. Nothing was simple, life was a jumbled web of complex thoughts, words, situations, and people.
"Waiting for me?" His voice made her heart stop, she turned around to see him grinning.
"Of course not, darling," She scratched her chin. "What brings you here this time?"
"You know exactly why I'm here, Yanyan." His eyes glittered in the moonlight, his cheeks dusted pink. "You're smarter than that, don't act dumb."
"I thought about it." Her voice was quiet, her eyes softening. "I really did, believe me sweetie, I did."
