the calm melody of the music flows through the dance studio, the sound waves bouncing off of the white walls ever so delicately. the atmosphere in the room could be described as nothing other than one word; pretty. the music, the way your feet glide across the wooden floors, the emotion that flows from deep within you and out into the choreography. it's all pretty.

well at least that's what hoseok thinks as he watches you silently from the corner of the dance studio. a smile is etched on to his face as he watches your technique closely, praising the way you've sharpened your moves without making it seem like you're trying too hard. he stands up and claps as you come out of your ending pose and walk over to your bag that's seated next to him. you smile big as you grab your water bottle, taking in the feeling of pure appraisal from hoseok. you've known him long enough to know that although he's the sweetest soul on earth, he doesn't play when it comes to dance. it's quite scary if you're being honest. he becomes so lazer focused that his face remains completely still, making it hard to tell whether or not he loves or hates what he's watching. it's only when he snaps out of his teacher mode that you're able to see that warm smile again.

you and hoseok met once when he was a trainee, but you didn't officially become friends until a few years later. it's pretty funny when you look back at it now, but at the time it definitely wasn't funny. you were just hired as a choreographer under big hit entertainment, and it was your first day. things had already started off on the wrong foot because you were late, but to make things worse you had absolutely no idea where you were going once you got into the building. they must have expected you to magically understand how to navigate through a building that was larger than necessary, but that certainly wasn't the case.

somehow you ended up on the 6th floor which, at the time, you didn't know is where all the k-pop idols have dance rehearsals. you were hired as a choreographer for trainees under big hit, so to say you would have been in a lot of trouble for going to the 6th floor would have been an understatement.

when you walked into one of the dance studios, you saw hoseok going over some choreography by himself. long story short, you two got to making some small talk about how you were a dance major in college, and how you just got hired as the choreographer for trainees. he then introduced himself as j-hope of bts, and it was during that exact moment that you knew you were screwed. you weren't supposed to be on this floor, let alone talking to one of the most successful idols there. hoseok sensed the panic on your face and quickly helped sneak you off of the 6th floor, and on to the 4th floor where you were supposed to be. after that day, the two of you would share small glances as you passed each other in the halls. it was your little secret, and it still is to this day.

you worked as a main choreographer for trainees under big hit for a few years after that. which brings you to today, your first day as the main choreographer for bts. their previous choreographer resigned not too long ago, as he wanted to settle down with his wife and start a family. you don't blame him. being a full time choreographer for a globally known k-pop group is extremely fast paced, which is not necessarily the kind of job you want to have when you're just starting a family. personally, you thought it was really admirable for him to take that sort of initiative, but the company didn't agree.

when hoseok found out there was an opening for the position, he immediately recommended you. of course you had to go through extreme observation by bang pd after that. needless to say you were extremely nervous, but hoseok helped you the whole way through. he was even nice enough to send you a bouquet of flowers once you got the job.

now here you two are, in the dance studio waiting for the other members to arrive. hoseok arrived earlier than everyone else because knowing you, your nerves would take over and he felt the need to be there in order to calm you down. he suggested going through an old routine of yours, which is what you just finished up. as you take a sip of your water you look at him and give a small smile. "thank you. that definitely helped."

hoseok smiles and nods as he stretches a bit. "i know it's your first time officially meeting the guys, but there really is no reason to be nervous. if anything you're already besties with the scariest member." he finishes with a wiggle of his eyebrows and a small laugh. you set your bottle down and look at him, shaking your head to yourself as you cringe internally.

"there are two things you should never do. the first is use besties in a sentence. the second is whatever the hell you just did with your eyebrows. please hoseok, have some decency." you joke while walking over to your phone and prepping the playlist you would need for today's practice. before hoseok could bite back any sort of response, the rest of the members walk through the door as if on cue.

one by one, they all enter the room in a single file line as if they're elementary school children. you also take note of the way namjoon is the first one to enter the room with jin, jimin, taehyung, and jungkook following behind him. yoongi is the last member to enter, which causes you to laugh quietly because it is very obvious that they intentionally came in that way. you're proven correct when hoseok laughs as he gets up to greet them. "let me guess, jin hyung and our maknae's were goofing around in the halls again?" he speaks as he greets taehyung with a small pat on his head.

namjoon nods as he sets his bag down in the back of the room. he takes his bucket hat off and tosses it on to the bag before ruffling his hair. "honestly, do we expect anything else?" he asks with a small chuckle. once he notices your presence he looks over at you and gives you a huge smile, causing his dimples to pop out. "oh, hello! you must be our new choreographer!" he says as he bows respectfully.

not even 3 seconds pass after he speaks before five pairs of eyes, excluding hoseok's, flick over to you simultaneously, immediately eliminating any doubts you may have had about their synchronization.

author's note:

here's to the first chapter of a moth to a flame being published <3🥂

the first few chapters of moth to a flame are going to be a bit longer than i would like them to be. this is simply because the first few chapters are giving a lot of background on the characters and how they met. trust me, it's essential to the story's plot! as time goes on the chapters published won't have as many long and SUPER in-depth paragraphs!
