you furrow your brows and quickly shake your head. "no, no i just-" you stammer out. you know how pathetic you sound right now, and honestly you're usually pretty good with having quick comebacks. you're used to guys trying their cheesy pickup lines on you, so you've become quite the master at shutting them up. but as you look into jungkook's eyes, you find your pulse quickening and your mouth suddenly becoming dry.

hoseok shakes his head and sighs softly as he wraps his arm around your shoulder, gently pulling you into him. this is one of hoseok's habits that you have grown accustomed to. he is generally very kind, and since his love language is physical touch, you know he is doing this to comfort you. he must think jungkook's flirting is bothering you. but . . . it's not.

typically you would lean into his touch and continue with whatever you were doing. you never minded it. sometimes you even wanted him to do it when it wasn't necessary. but when you see jungkook's gaze flicker to hoseok's arm around you, you suddenly feel like pulling away. you two weren't together, and you wanted the guys to know you were just friends . . . right? this had nothing to do with jungkook.

". . . isn't right to play around and flirt. she's our friend, and our choreographer. might i also remind you, she is older than you." you hear hoseok say. you must've gotten lost in your thoughts. jungkook pokes the inside of his cheek with his tongue, simultaneously embarrassed and annoyed with the scolding hoseok was giving him. but instead of fighting back, jungkook pushes his chair back, giving him enough room to rest his hands on his lap and bow towards you and hoseok.

"i apologize for making you uncomfortable vanessa-ssi. it was never my intent. i promise to avoid such language in the future. hobi hyung, i apologzie for being disrespectful towards someone you are close to." he speaks before rising from his bow.

hoseok nods and rubs your arm gently. "she's our friend, jungkookie. you don't have to address her formally.". jungkook looks at hoseok then bows again. "sorry, noona." he says before rising from his bow once again. watching him apologize so seriously, and so formally for something that didn't bother you in the first place makes you feel bad for him. he was just joking around, but hoseok took it too seriously.

you quickly shake your head and sit up, pulling away from hoseok's embrace as you wave your hands back and forth quickly. "no, no! jungkook you don't have to-". before you can finish your sentence, jungkook stands up and grabs his biker jacket that was resting on the back of his chair and his helmet that was resting on the floor next to him. you didn't notice those earlier.

jungkook walks to the head of the table and faces everyone as he bows. "thank you for dinner." he says before turning on his heel and exiting the room. you frown as you watch him leave. you didn't mean to get him in trouble.

hoseok senses the shift in your mood and smiles softly before shaking his head. "don't worry, v. he's just being dramatic. he tends to be a little emotional at times. he'll be fine in a few hours." he speaks. you aren't sure why, but hearing hoseok talk that way about his band member made you feel a little annoyed. jungkook had every right to be upset. he was embarrassed in front of everyone, for something that was clearly a joke. nobody took it seriously except hoseok.

namjoon looks at hoseok from across the table and shakes his head. "yah. hoseok-ah, you shouldn't speak about him like that. you embarrassed him. did vanessa specifically say she was uncomfortable? or did you assume? you didn't even give jungkook a chance to say he was joking before you scolded him."

hoseok blinks in response before shaking his head and sitting up. "i was just trying to make sure she-"

namjoon cuts him off and looks at you with a soft smile. "vanessa, did jungkook make you uncomfortable? and please, be honest." he speaks. you look around the table then glance at the empty seat where jungkook sat before shaking your head. "hobi . . ." you start as you turn towards him.

"i knew he was joking. i was just caught off guard so it took me longer than usual to respond. thank you for sticking up for me, but it wasn't necessary."

jin nods from across the table before giving his input. "hoba . . . you're usually the one to cheer him up when he get's scolded. you acted too quickly, and for the first time ever you were the one to scold him. you should apologize to him."

you get up from your seat and grab your purse, bowing towards the guys and thanking them for dinner before exiting the room. hoseok was getting a scolding of his own and although you feel bad for him, you know he needs to hear it. if you're going to work for them and be friends with them, hoseok needs to understand that he can't act so quickly and irrationally because of you. you shut the door behind you, taking a mental note to call him later tonight and check up on him.

you make your way to the front counter of the restaurant as you go into your purse and take out your wallet. you expect the bill to be extremely high - which it is - but paying for dinner is the least you can do in this case. you smile at the woman behind the counter and go to hand her your card. "hi, i'd like to pay the entire bill please."

she smiles and gently pushes your card back towards you. "the young man before you has already covered the bill. have a great evening!" she says. you furrow your brows and nod a bit as you take your card and place it back in your wallet. he already paid?

author's note:

this is a bit of a shorter chapter. it was meant to kind of build off the last chapter and add a little bit of drama. do you think jungkook had the right to be upset? or is hoseok right?
