I picked up some boxes from my trunk and carried them inside. "God this is Hell. " I flopped down on my couch. I sighed and laid down. This place was dark. The lights barely worked. "Well I guess I'll get lights." I spoke to myself. I got up and walked outside to my car.
When I got to the store the sun was already setting. I grabbed about 20 lightbulbs. I have no idea how many I'd need, but it's better to have more than less.
By the time I got home it was dark outside. I sighed again. I walked to my door, but before I could open it I stopped. Something told me not to open the door. I stood there waiting for something to happen. After a minute or two I just shrugged and went inside. I stood in the dim living room; watching my every step. I used my phone flashlight and started to take the lightbulbs out of the boxes. Every now and then my flashlight would shut off. Every time I would feel something around my ankle. I assumed it was my fear of the dark; just my imagination.
I finished putting the lights in and had a lot left. At least I have spares. I sat in my living room with the light on and watched TV. It was about midnight by the time I fell asleep. The lights were still on, but out of the corner of my eye there was something crouching in the corner. It was under the table, in a dark place. It almost scared me out of my half asleep phase, but I was too tired to think anything of it. It was probably just my imagination anyway.
In the morning when I woke up it was 9am. "Jeez did I really sleep with the lights on?" I felt stupid for that. I was going to put off getting a job, since I had just paid off my college funding, and I still had a lot of money left. Sleep with the lights on, however, is going to take all my money. I walked through the house turning off every light. For every light I tried off, something just felt wrong. It felt as if someone was reaching for me. I didn't even realize I was speed walking through the entire house. When I finished I was just sitting in my living room staring outside. I had gotten dressed to go out in the town and find a job. I did see a book store down the street from my house. It wasn't that far so I didn't have to drive. And paying for gas nowadays was too much. Even for this small town.
When I left I could've sworn I heard a sigh from the corner of the room. It sent a shiver down my spine.
I walked along the sidewalk. Looking at the old houses as I walked past them. This place was creepy. All the houses had dull color walls, and rust on anything metal. It looked like an amusement park for haunted house. However no one ever complained. There were rumors of hauntings, but the people who live in the house say nothing strange has happened. Even those who put up cameras haven't caught anything. Despite the look of the outside, the inside of every house is beautiful. Well except for my house. There's obviously a reason it was so cheap.
My thoughts stopped when I got to the store. It was quiet, and dark. Were they open? No way the door would be unlocked if they were closed. I walked down the dark ailses of the books. Just it felt at my house: I felt uneasy. As if whatever was creeping me out in that house followed me here; maybe I just didn't like the dark. I was looking at the books, till I found my favorite book. I smiled and picked it from the shelf. I flipped through the pages, reading through my favorite parts. I didn't get to look up from the book before I saw someone standing in front of me. My instincts told me to not look up. I stood there staring at the book; pretending not to see the person- if you could even call it that- standing there. It's body was like a black hole. I saw glimpses out of my peripheral vision, but I didn't dare look at it directly. I was fighting to keep my composure. I couldn't run, no way I'd run faster than this thing. Then It spoke, this thing actually spoke! "I know you can see me, Hunter..." Shit. Shit. Shit! Know I really couldn't move. My instincts told me to run, but now I couldn't. This thing knows my name! "Look at me Hunter~." Why did it say my name like that. "Hunter..." What do I do?! I was not looking at this thing! I didn't even want to glance at it! My thoughts raced in my head. Then this thing took the book out of my hands. I'm dead. "Mm. Good choice. You're obviously a hopeless romantic." It laughed. It was deep and terrifying. It echoed through the whole book store. I stood frozen. I couldn't move, however my mind was screaming for a retreat. My limbs wouldn't move. My arms slowly lowered to my sides. My eyes stayed in the space between us. I saw through my peripheral vision that it reached a hand out to my face. I wanted to run, at the least flinch away. I couldn't even talk, I couldn't yell for help. "I told you to look at me. How rude. " Its hand touched my face. The feeling was cold, but soft. Still I was repulsed by it. My face, however, didn't show it. My face was stuck in fear. I was shaking. It laughed again, another roar that came from the bottom of his lungs. It then lifted my head. In this action I shut my eyes. I could hear its groans of protest, but I felt it was simply safer if I didn't look at it. "You're insufferable...if you don't open your eyes I'll have to open them for you~" how was he going to do that? What was he going to do? "I mean I could just ripe your eye lids off." Another terrifying laughter rumbled from him. After a small hesitation I felt cold come near my eyes and they shot open. A black cloudy hand was inches from my eye. I gasped when it pulled away to see a black showdown like figure standing in front of me. I could make out long hair. It was like a shadow had escaped the 2d space it had been trapped in. My face held a look of pure terror. Its hand was still on my face. As it slowly lowered I could hear that dreadful laugh. "You're scared. Why? I haven't done anything to you yet." Yet? What does that mean? I tried to move my body. In any way I could to get away from this thing. I tried to speak, but my throat ached everytime I tried. I held back a gasp when my fingers twitched. Finally. My legs twitched as well. It was easy to cover with how harsh I was trembling. It moved closer and closer. It was inches away from me. Now I have to run. I swung my arm at it. I wasn't expecting to hit it, just swat it away. I did hit it however. It felt human, but there's no way it was. I turned and ran. I couldn't hear it behind me. When I got to the door I pulled and it was locked. Damnit! I looked behind me to see it walking towards me. I ran around it running to the emergency exit. I didn't even care about the alarm. I just wanted out of there. I wasn't outside yet. I was in a long concrete hallway. It was just as dark. I ran as fast as I could to get to the door at the end. When I had my hands on the door I felt something around my ankle. I fell to the ground. It's laugh was so much worse in here. I grabbed whatever was around my ankle and pulled on it. This thing got closer and closer to me. I gave up and crawled to the door. If I can just get light in here I'll be fine. It pulled me towards it. It's trying to keep me from the door.
"Let go of me!" It stopped moving.
"You speak... finally I thought this would be boring." It laughed again.
"What do you want? What are you?" I was propped up on my elbows still trying to crawl away.
"Well, I don't know what I want. I guess I want you to fear me. I don't know what I am. I do know I am man. Not an it. So many have called me an it before; it's rude. " He stood still. I didn't know what to say. I'm guess he didn't either.
"How many people have you killed?" He laughed.
"Well I don't know. Two, three maybe. Those were justified. The others well I drove them insane so they just left. That's what happens when you find a scary monster and try to tell people. No one will believe you, and it'll drive you insane. However that was just at my home. I've never been able to follow anyone before. " He lives at my house?
"Wait what? You live at my house?" He lunged at me stopping right at my face.
"That's my house." I backed away from him. My back hit something. The door! I reached my hand up to the handle. "What are you doing? We're not done talking yet." I pulled on the handle, and the room filled with light. He vanished and I sighed. I walked out into an alley. There was a bar net to it. Good I need a drink.
