Fears

Nyctophobia is a phobia characterized by a severe fear of the dark. It is triggered by the brain’s disfigured perception of what would, or could, happen when in a dark environment. It can also be temporarily triggered if the mind is unsteady or scared about recent events or ideas, or a partaking in content the brain considers a threat. [Examples could include indulging in horror content, witnessing vulgar actions, or having linked dark environments to prior events or ideas that disturb the mind.] . . . . *This story is NOT about the phobia, just a girl who is suffering from it. And a journey to escape it*

If knowledge is power, what is a lie? When three young friends explore an abandoned mine in rural West Virginia, they make an unbelievable discovery. They learn a lot, the hard way, about people and the way the world works. Will their decisions stress their friendships to the breaking point? Were Mom and Dad right, or are they too old fashioned?

"Whispers in the Dark" is a collection of standalone horror stories where reality twists, and nothing is as safe as it seems. These are the moments you never speak of - The figure watching from the window when you think you're alone. The dream you both share but never remember the same way. The smile from across the street that's meant only for you. Each story peels back the thin layer between normal life and the unspeakable things hiding underneath - the ones waiting for night to fall, for everyone else to stop looking. Because sometimes, what you think is just in your head... is already inside your house. Read at night. If you dare. But don't look too long at the shadows. They might be looking back.

This story is my own fantastical interpretation of the field of mental health. My career has been solely based on helping children overcome a world of darkness and fear, as well as strive towards a more fulfilling life. I was given the opportunity to write a short story to present to an Art Gala, which was a fundraiser for the employment for which I work, but this piece never made it. I hope you enjoy.

Marcus never believed in ghosts, monsters, or anything supernatural. Then every night at exactly 2:15 a.m., something starts knocking on his bedroom door. At first, he convinces himself it's his imagination. Lack of sleep. An old house making strange noises. But when a dark figure begins appearing at the end of his hallway-and a terrifying message appears scratched into his bedroom door-Marcus realizes something impossible has found him. And whatever it is... seems to know him.

*I do not own the cover art!* Hey guys. I know it's taken me a long time to get this done but I just couldn't figure out how to word this. Horror is my thing so this is a mix of romance and horror. I hope it isn't too bad Anyway! If there's anyone who thinks there's something I could improve the story on, don't be afraid to voice your opinion! I'm open to improvement.

Ya en el cuarto recorro de a poco la casa y la sombra negra parece estar jugando a las escondidas conmigo, Parece tratar de dominar mis pensamientos. Trataría de complacerme para luego encerrarme. Veo sombras, que se convierten en pesadillas de un rostro perfecto, el monitor comienza a mancharse y ya no puedo seguir escribiendo en la oscuridad. 30//3//2018 Alexander

At some point in our lives we have all experienced that childish fear of the dark. Afraid a monster will creep out from our bed and drag us down. The shadows slowly shifting in their nightmarish dance, but then the sun rises again and all is right. What if the sun didn't rise to chase away the demons of darkness? It has been nearly a millennium since the human race has seen the sun, and the world has been overrun by the embodiment of human fear.

"In the night time, when it's dark and quiet, I see shadows....but doesn't everyone?" "yes...but what you see isn't the same as what others see..." Shadows- Reflections with no features, voices, or life.....or at least that's how it seems
