Life expectancy- the average time a person can be expected to live

How could things be so difficult and yet so easy? Ruby stared at her homework for music: write and prepare a song for her music class with her team. She glanced at her other homework for her world language: Japanese. She had to write lyrics crossing between English and Japanese. Wait, she could do both! She turned to her team, ignoring Weiss. "Blake, Yang! I have an idea!"

So this is how she stood before two classes, completing homework for both with her team. She glared at Weiss, but was secretly grateful for her help writing a song. She took a deep breath. "Go, Ruby!" cried Oscar.

"Oh no," she murmured softly to herself. Then the song began. (A/N: the song is not actually a hybrid, it's actually full Japanese but I translated some of it)

Yomei senkoku matsu retsu

Nagamenagara aruite ita

Watashi wa ima dono hen?

Is it left behind?

Jikan wa dore kuraina no?

I'm watching myself from behind the scenes.

Kako no jibun miteina furi de sa

"I'm fine" that I always said with my clumsiness

Koroshite shimaebaii

I am a liar

Forced into the afterlife

Nigeru

Sukina youni ikite

I want to sing my favorite song

Only time will be enough

Mata onaji daijoubu

Kurik aesu no?

Weiss sang the lyrics in between, but it was hard for her because she couldn't understand it. She spoke into the mic and began to sing, best as she could.

"Nee, kimi datte shoudesho

Hontou no jibun wakatte

Hoshi kuse ni"

Ruby took a deep breath; Oscar was cheering her name. She flashed him a smile. Weiss noticed and huffed jealously. Then the song continued, and Ruby's singing resumed.

The laces of my shoes are untied

It's like falling down

Watashi wa mata dame mitai

Kidzukeba mata

Rodjiura ni modotte iru

Ano hi soba de utatte kureta

A song some day

Mou ikai

I want to follow the voice of my heart

Koroshite shimaebaii

I'm a liar

Hontouni hoshii mono ushinau

Jibaku kara nogarete

I want to sing my favorite song

Sore dake ga

Write my existence

Hakidashita kuroi uso

Jibun no tameni

I was doing this

The intermission between verses was nerve-wracking for all of them; Blake was worried she'd mess up the guitar, and Yang the drums. To be honest, Ruby didn't even talk to Blake all that much. But she was glad her teammate was still willing to help. Then the time came, and Weiss exceeded expectations speed-wise.

"Kawaimono no watashi o

Yokome ni sugisatte iku

Aru nigen wa warau

Konna tokorode utau natte semaru

Dokedo mou

Kore kurai shika nai nda

Kore o yuzuttara

Watashi wa Watashi janai to omoukara

I am who I am"

When the dusk approaches

Mukashi omodiasu no,

Kono te ni wa

If you decide to take a step

Furue dasu sashinpo

I'm so happy I don't think I'll end up

Just kill me

I don't care what you say

I'm a liar, I'm already dead

Icicles with properly

Humming the melody

The more you sing the better, right?

Sing even if you're scared

However many times

"Anata datte soudeshou

Tell me the truth"

And just like that, it was done. All the classes looked surprised, if not a bit scared. Ruby and Weiss bowed. Ruby smiled at her. "Maybe you didn't do half bad, Ice Queen."

"Same to you, dolt."

Weiss smiled even more. She was making progress.
