George's POV
"So.. Father- what did you want to talk about?" I ask the older man sitting on a metal table in his underground laboratory while he examines me for any damages.

"Oh yes! Well, I think you're ready to go out in public again so I have enrolled you in Ridgeway Highschool" He explains to me taking a step back.

My eyes widen at his statement. After 8 years, I'm finally able to go outside and see the sunlight- not some artificial light he created. My father is a scientist. He has been one since far before I was born. My mother is deceased, her death still being a mystery to me. Father refused to speak about it. She passed when I was just a child.

He became a bit mad if I'll be honest.

He experimented on all sorta stuff, I was on that list as well. He called me project 404- The only successful experiment that survived through all the tests. My skills and abilities were increased by a million. I became faster, smarter, and even stronger. It all came at a cost though. I could barely feel what those actors felt on TV. I couldn't feel certain things like everyone else. My father didn't care as long as I passed all his tests. I became superficial. Literally. Like a robot with a beating heart and an active mind. All the chemicals in my mind were mixed up. I wasn't human anymore. Years later and I managed to adapt to this whole... situation. It kind of just became part of my daily schedule. Although I occasionally do wonder, what would it be like if I was just some regular kid with regular hobbies and regular friends?

Hearing my father's words I immediately spring away from the table excitedly. "Are you serious?" I ask not fully believing it. I've been homeschooled since I was 10. This is going to be.. a new experience. It's a little exciting.

"I will monitor you to see how you can handle adapting to the public," My father tells me writing on his clipboard. He puts it aside and gives me a pair of special goggles.. glasses? I knew it was too good to be true. Still feeling a little annoyed, I grab it from him and proceed to put them on. A bunch of screens pops up.

"Keep them on at all times. I will be able to monitor your pulse, heart rate, and blood pressure. It also records everything that happens so we can play them when you get back home. Any questions?"

"Err.. no? When can I start?"

"In two hours"

"In two hours?!"

"Better get dressed quick, Karl is picking you up"

Karl has been my best friend since we were kids. Our mothers were friends so we were raised together and he's the only one who understands me. He gets my whole situation, he tries teaching me new things. I'm honestly so grateful. I could not have asked for a better friend.
-
"Jesus! You took absolutely forever" Karl tells me as I get in the passenger's seat of his car.

"I just didn't know what to wear and my father kept nagging me" I sigh.

Karl starts driving to school. "This is high school, who cares what you wear and as for your dad.. at least he's letting you go out more. I can't wait to have you meet my friends!"

Friends... I don't know. I've survived this long without any friends. I mean I got Karl anyways so what's the point. I don't wanna be pestered by idiotic high schoolers daily. The only bright side about this is that I won't be forced to be isolated anymore. I can also spend time with Karl which is great.

After a couple of minutes or so, we finally arrive on the school grounds. Karl pulls into the parking lot turning the car off. We walk side to side inside one of the main corridors. "Does this mean I can finally meet your boyfriend?" I ask with a faint smile.

"Hell yes!" I chuckle seeing the boy excited. "Your class is 1105 right? That's this same floor, We're hardly even late" He says leading to one of the classrooms.

"You are literally on time for anything besides your classes" I stop in front of my classroom.

"Be grateful I even decided to show up at all!" I grin watching him place his hand on the doorknob. He opens it immediately catching the teacher's attention. "Hey Miss H.. my friend here has your class, it's his first year here. It was my fault we were late"

"Oh, no worries! Come and take a seat wherever you'd like, Karl you better hurry on"

"Got it! Have fun Georgie"

He flashes me another smile and hurries out of the class. As soon as he leaves, I walk to the empty seat in the far back. The teacher gets back to the lesson. My mind is everywhere else besides the teacher. It's not that I'm not interested in what she's teaching but the students here are so peculiar. I take a glance at the boy sitting to my right. He is quite attractive I won't lie but he seems like the type who would set stuff on fire for fun. Criminal or not.. damn. Just because I'm unable to feel certain emotions doesn't mean I'm blind. I wonder if Karl's friends with him. My father wouldn't like me hanging out with the wrong people- literally. I'm used to all his.. 'techniques' of educating me.

The blonde looks at me and flashes me a smile as I quickly look away. I got distracted and didn't realize I was staring. He has a cute smile. Wait what? No. God no.

After two hours that felt like forever.. the bell rings which must mean that the class is over. The teacher finishes up and adds, "Have a great day you guys!" and with that everyone says their goodbyes, heading out of the classroom.

As I'm close to exiting the classroom, someone pulls me aside. The same American from earlier. "Hey, George right?" We both start walking down the hall.

"What's it to you?" I asked sounding a bit harsh.

"Jesus, what bit you in the ass this morning?"

"Your mum" Is all I reply as I walk away from him trying to find Karl when a very familiar voice calls out for me who happened to be my best friend. He's taking me to my next class and the one after.. just until I get used to things. I walk to him smiling. "Hey, Karl!"

"So... I saw you talking to Dream"

"What's his deal?"

"I don't exactly have anything against him..- but he is best friends with my ex-boyfriend who is also annoyingly a football player"

"Yikes"

"Right?"

I chuckle as we both continue to walk to our next class together.
