Counting in Dutch is quite easy because it has
a simple system. You've (1-9) then the Dutch
word for and(en) and then the tens
term(20,30 etc). For example the word for 22
means two and twenty. If you already speak
a language that isn't English, you are likely
familiar with this concept.
The one slight adjustment in spelling that
needs to be made is that if the singles place
ends in a vowel (twee and drie), the word
en(and) gets a diaeresis: ën. That's why 22 is
Tweeëntwintig
Also, when one (één) is added on, it loses the
accents, making eighty-one just eenentachtig.
