Chapter 4: Confusion

It was a crisp winter morning when you were walking through a tree enclosed walkway. You usually take this way to avoid the never-ending yells and calls from everyone in the hallway. You had found that even the teachers avoided you.  You take it as they don't mess with Teagan either. You did have Jerek and Lydia ( well, mostly Jerek) but even that didn't stop the harassment. It HAD gone down, but didn't stop. At least you had some protection. It was kind of comforting...kind of.
As you reach the front doors of the school you take a deep breathe.
" another perfect day in the life of me" you whisper as you slowly climb the stairs." It can't be worst than yesturday...." you laugh at yourself for thinking so hopefully, because when has the next day been easier than the day before. You reach the door and quickly open it while stepping inside.

"Where do you think your going?" Teagan yells as he grabs you by the collar and throws you against a locker.

The usual shutting of all the classroom doors tells you that the teachers know you have walked in.

" Awe look at poor little freak" He says while holding you by the throat and lifts you up.
" Teagan, please! Just let me go" you manage to choke out. You feel all the blood rush to your feet and your vision starts to blur in and out.
" why don't I just end your life now and make everyone's like a little easier?" Teagan spats out as his grip tightens.

Your vision blacks for a second and then....BAM! You hit the floor and gasp for air as you catch a blurry vision of black hair. You know that hair anywhere...Jerek.

"I'm sorry, are we having a little problem here?" Jerek says as you watch him pick up Teagan and throw him against a locker.
Ever since Jerek has been around you he kind of shifted away from Teagan. Now, they don't talk to each other except at practice.
Wow, can you imagine how safe a hug from him would be; to see his electric eyes only staring at yo..
"what are you thinking? He would never like you, he's just here to make sure you don't die" you whisper to yourself. You don't know why he hangs out with you. He could be popular if he left you behind. He has the looks, the charm, and he's good at sports. Actually, sometimes you expect him to snap out of it and go with a crowd that's more suitable for him. You expect the same from the girl...but you think that she's too shy to try.
" Jerek, why do you hang out with that garbage? I think it's time to take it out and never look back" you jump at the word garbage and feel a tear fall.
" The only garbage I see is the one standing in front of me." Jerek yells at Teagan while throwing him to the ground. You heard the whole hall grow quiet and everyone froze. Teagan stands up and wipes himself off.
" You won't be here to protect her forever! And when you aren't....it'll be done for the freak" he glared at you before shoving you to the ground and storming down the hallway.
" Are you okay? Any marks, bruises, cuts?" Jerek looks at your neck where Teagan had strangled you and he clenched his jaw. You knew he was mad because his eyes went a darker shade of blue and his jaw was clenched
Wow, your way to involved with this guy!
" They're right you know...I'm not worth it"
"Your worth it to me!" He yelled. You jumped at his change of voice. You've never seen this side of him in the months that you've known him.
His eyes softened and he gently moved a piece of your hair out of your face.
" Your worth it to me...and I'm not gonna let anyone hurt you"
"But you'll be leaving soon, it's your last year in high school and then you've got your life ahead of you. I've got a year left in this hell hole, get out while you can."
" And that will do what? Give them what they want and finish you off? I don't think so. Besides, you can't get rid of me that easily" he winks and gives you his signature smile before helping you up.
That wink could get you every time. You don't know why you think it would ever work, but you've got to give yourself something to dream about, right?
You two start walking down the hall to your first class; biology. Jerek is saying something but your not listening. All you can think about is the day that Jerek leaves high school...and your left in the pool of sharks without a life jacket.

Jerek's POV
You watched her walk into biology and then quickly jogged to your first period.

Gosh that girl's got me all twisted and confused.
Why? Because you might be falling for the reject?
She's not a reject...to us anyway
You've got a girlfriend stupid!!
" Jerek!!"
You turn to see a blonde girl running towards you...ashley.
" Hey babe, I haven't seen you all week! Have you missed me?" Ashley chirped while intertwining her hands with yours.
You pulled your hands out of hers without even thinking. It almost felt...wrong.
"Jerek?"
"Sorry, I'm just out of it today" you mumble while grabbing her hand and walking with her to class.
Ashley has been your girlfriend since the end of last year and you guys have been strong ever since. Everyone thinks that she's really obnoxious and rude but it's not the real her. The Ashley that only you know is sweet, intelligent, and kind of goofy.
"So...how's the freak?" Ashley said nonchalantly.
You quickly dropped her hand and turned to face her.
" why are you guys so rude to her? Honestly, what did she do to you? She's just an innocent girl who cares a lot about people and yet she's punished for being...HER" you yell while lifting your hands in frustration.
" shh...Jerek! Your making a scene! Calm down" Ashley whispered while looking around the hallway.
Ashley really cared about her reputation and it kind of got on your nerves. It was one of the biggest ( and few) of the problems that you guys had. Ashley was all about image, you were about education.
" look, all I'm asking is that you don't call her a freak, alright? " you said in a lowered voice.
" Jerek, why do you care? She doesn't mean anything to you! You are just a part in Lydia's big plan! Besides, I'm the only girl that you should worry about, not a random girl that you've only known for a few months. Snap out of it!!" Ashley huffed before going into the classroom.
Ugh, she'll be the death of me with that attitude.
You know who doesn't have an attitude?
Shut up -.-
You sat down and rubbed your eyes. Why did she have to twist her way into your mind? Everything was perfect with Ashley!
No, everything is STILL perfect, she's just an experiment.
A cute, funny, caring....
" UGH!!!" You scream and put your hands over your eyes.
" Mr. Chadwick? Is something wrong?"
" Sorry sir, no I'm fine"
               You have no idea.....
