The day after Halloween was just like any other normal day at Tio's house. Darcy was downstairs in the family room laying down on the sofa watching TV. She had enjoyed trick or treating even though many would say she was too old to. Tio came down the stairs and stop midway.
"Hey Darce "
"Yeah"
"I'm going out with Vanessa and Lotus. "You'll be good here?"
"Yeah, I will" she replied.
"We'll be back later tonight"
"Okay Tio"
Darcy was too distracted watching Degrassi and couldn't give her uncle her undivided attention. She didn't even realize when he walked back up the stairs.
Elliot was still sleeping, he was like Darcy in that sense. They both were night owls, they are their most creative and truthful selves throughout the night when everyone else was fast asleep. Darcy would have slept a little longer too but she didn't have her own room at her uncle's house. She slept in Lotus's room on an extra mattress. Lotus never failed to wake her up extra early to play with her.
Darcy grabbed a big cozy blanket from the linen closet and laid back down on the sofa. She wrapped herself around the blanket. She decided that she would relax for a few while Lotus was gone. She knew the instant that she came back, she would have to play Just Dance or Barbies with her. Darcy didn't mind too much because even though Lotus wasn't an only child, it felt like she was. There was such a distinctive age gap between her and her brother to the point that they were not as close as they should be. It seemed like he had his own life or was secluded in his little bubble and didn't have time to entertain his younger sibling. Every time Lotus would try to go to his room, he would always yell at her to get out. That's why whenever Darcy was there she played and paid attention to her little cousin, she looked up to Darcy, and that meant a lot to her.
Time passed and Elliot had finally woken up for the day. Darcy didn't know exactly what he was doing but she heard him use the bathroom, she heard him go upstairs to the kitchen, and she heard him when he approached her. He didn't say a word at first but he sat on the couch right next to her. It was technically a loveseat, so their shoulders weren't brushing against each other.
Darcy kept watching her show as if his presence wasn't a big deal at all until he grabbed the remote."Hey give that back" she shouted as she tried to snatch it from his hand.
He placed his empty hand on her shoulder to create a barrier between them and extended the hand with the remote above his head so she couldn't reach it. This was a challenged to Darcy and she loved being challenged, she was so competitive, but she couldn't help it, it was in her nature, it was who she was.
She launched at him, her body pressing against his and she forcefully attempted to grab the remote. He pushed her down playfully as he laughed. He tried to get up and make a run with the controller but she was too fast. She stood up on the sofa quickly and jumped on his back. She was trying to put him in a headlock but all her efforts were pointless, he managed to free himself. He started to run throughout the family room. Darcy reacted as fast as she could. She had tunnel vision, she was on a hunt and was eager to catch her prey.
"Give it back" she yelled.
"No" he laughed.
She would go left and he'll run toward the right. Then, she will change her direction but he'll just go the opposite way.
"You have a tv in your room," she said logically.
"But I want to use this one" he giggledDarcy started sprinting and chased him directly to his room. She went to tackle him but he saw it coming. He grabbed her and tossed her onto his bed. She rose and grabbed his neck and squeeze. She was holding him tightly as he laughed. His body was warm, and his hair was right under her nose, it smelled good. He loosened up Darcy's grip, grabbed both of her hands, and pinned her down. He was on top of her, they were both laughing.
"Give me the remote" she ordered.
"I will, just let me pick a movie we can watch, you'll like it"
Before she could answer, she realized how close he was. They were nose to nose and she felt his strength because he was still holding her down. The laughing stopped altogether, and the room felt very quiet. Darcy looked at Elliot intensely, she was feeling something in her stomach that she didn't understand. She was looking into his eyes and realized he was looking at her the same way. The only difference is that his eyes were so gentle and it was like they were trying to communicate an unspoken thought.
Darcy interrupted the silence and said "Fine, you can pick a movie"
He stood up gently and grabbed her hand to lift her off the bed. They both walked to the family room and sat on the loveseat. Elliot picked V for Vendetta, it wasn't something Darcy was familiar with. Honestly, it wasn't her cup of tea, but she decided to give it a chance. The movie turned out to be very interesting and she enjoyed it tremendously.
"How did you like it?" He asked.
"It was good"
"You're going home tonight, right ?"
"Yeah, I got school tomorrow"
"Uhh school," he said distastefully.
"What's wrong with school?"
" I was happy when I was going to school in Norwalk, that's where my friends and family are. I hate that we moved here and I hate that I have no choice but to go to school here"
"But Stratford is a nice area to live in. Also, a new school allows you to meet new people" Darcy explained.
"I don't have friends"
"Have you tried to make any"
"No. Those kids are all entitled and corny" Elliot explained.
"What about your classes"
"I'm failing" Elliot glanced at the wall.
"I can come next weekend and help you with whatever you don't understand"
"What's the point"
"The point is to graduate and make something out of yourself"
"I guess so"
"I know so" Darcy teased.
"I have to mow the lawn today, I am dreading it already"
"It's that bad ?"
"It's just so boring and tedious"
They both heard a door open and the alarm system quickly notified them that the front door was open. Darcy didn't see her uncle but he instructed her to grab her things that he was going to take her home.
Darcy got up and packed her bag. Before she left she walked into Elliot's room, where he was sitting down on the corner of his bed watching some music video on MTV.
"Here," Darcy said while she placed her iPod Nano in his hand. "Use this"
"But it's yours"
"I'll just come back next weekend and picked it up" Darcy reassured him. "Use it so you can mow the lawn peacefully"
"Thank you"
"I hope you like my kind of music, my taste is all over the place" Darcy pointed out as she left his room and met her uncle.
It was a weird ride to her mother's house because after leaving the whole time she thought about the feeling she got in the abdomen of her stomach when Elliott was so close to her. That feeling made her nervous but in a good way.
