CHAPTER TWO~ You fuck-tard, you cannot cut wood with scissors!
Janie Briggs
Juliet was a mess again. Her dark brown hair in a sloppy plait and her blue cardigan had some sort of stain on it.She was also staring at him again, just like she did at her house, on the street, anywhere she saw him really. I didn't mind it, because even when she isn't staring at Romeo she's staring into outer space, something is better than nothing right?
Julie and I sit at the back of our English class, and unlike in all the movies, this is not the cool place to sit. Basically, the back row is where the discarded items go, Juliet and I are the only trash back here, for different reasons, ones we bonded over, only I miss my old clique, I guess Julie is sweet enough. Although sometimes she could qualify for a nut case.
I lean over and tap her shoulder. Unresponsive... again. I glance at Marco and Romeo's back, they're whispering about something, again. I glance at the barbie-wannabes in the corner, who all stare at their phones, either taking photos or scrolling through social media.
Everyone in this school is so damn predictable.
"Alright class," the small, mousy man at the front calls, "listen up please! This term we'll be working on getting better as a team, or specifically, groups." A collective groan escapes everyone's lips, everyone except Juliet who is still as responsive as a tomato. "I have assigned the groups, and before you as, there will be no changing them, whatsoever." Some swears carry around the classroom, I simply lean back, I have no problems with anyone but Yasmin. "The groups are small, four to six people each group, and, as I'm sure you're aware, there are an odd number of you. Please remember your groups and sit in them once you're assigned."
"Shit, man. Who's going to get stuck with 'em?" Marco sticks a thumb over his shoulder towards us and I catch his hand.
"Hopefully not you Hughes." I hiss. Marco laughs.
"Little outcast is a feisty one, maybe I need to get Ge-" I smack a hand over his mouth.
"Utter another word, Marcy, and I will see to your death." Marco lifts my hand off of himself with ease.
"Got any sanitizer Romeo?" Marco chuckles as I lean back. "Wouldn't want to get a disease, now would I Janie?"
"Douche." Romeo mutters and I laugh. At least the eye candy had a decent-ish personality too.
Marco Hughes
"Shit-head," I say. I feel a smile come over my lips as Romeo leans forward to grab my hair.
"Mr Anderson, Miss Hughes, would you be so kind as to listen. We'll wait if you need." The stumpy hag crosses his flabby arms over his chest.
I smile at him, a toothy grin. "Sir, you're so considerate." Snickers run through the class. Janie just groans and Juliet and Romeo are completely out of it.
"Really, Marco? The first day." The teacher mumbles something incoherent afterwards. I catch the words rich and brat. If it wasn't for me, he probably wouldn't have a job. "Anyway, here are the groups. Dana, Jim, George and Dylan .Hayley, Janet, Jamie, Matthew and Lola." High fives. "Romeo," Romeo's head snaps up and an uneasy smile settles on his face. "Marco, Janie, Kaelie, Lacey." It's a well known fact Kaelie and Lacey hate each other, this will be fun to watch. "Did I miss anyone?" Yes our class is small, 15 people to be exact.
A small squeak sounds behind me. "Me, Mr J." So, the mute does speak.
Juliet Deeks
Everyone looks at me like I killed a rare bird. What? Have they never heard a girl speak before? I contemplate saying that aloud, but instead just stare blankly ahead.
Wow, even the teacher forgot my existence. Feels good bein' Julie fricken Deeks right now.
"Oh, um. Whoops." He scratches his bald head and looks at his sheet, then at the groups in turn. They all shake their heads vigorously. Nice to know I'm loved. Janie looks at me with pity in her eyes. "I guess you can go with, Hayley and her group."
Hayley raises her manicured hand. "So sorry sir but mom said I'm not allowed to talk to Juliet at all. Something about her family I guess..." She doesn't guess because everybody knows about my family, and they all laugh about it too.
It's not funny.
"Well, Juliet, please join with Janie and Marco. I'm sure they'll be delighted to have you." The group rolls their eyes.
"Don't worry," I say, "I won't get in your way." They raise their eyebrows at me as I pull on my hidden hood. English has never been my best subject anyway.
Romeo Anderson
Juliet was one of those girls who just sat back and watched, and that was why everyone either forgot her completely, or made her stick out like a sore thumb. Mostly, it was the latter.
Although I didn't completely hate Juliet, I didn't exactly enjoy her being around either. She always stares, at everything and is just so socially awkward. I mean, she could be pretty if she tried, but there was always at least a rip in her shirt or a stain on her shoulder. Today, I couldn't tell whether it was gravy or chocolate. Who knows? I don't see why she's dressed so poorly, her family is loaded. I should know.
Right now, Juliet was back in her seat. Her face was only just showing under her hood.
"Yo, Julie. Got any scissors? Your wooden nose is a little long today?" Janie sucks in a breath.
"You fuck-tard, you cannot cut wood with scissors." Janie hisses. Marco leans close to Juliet's face.
"Tell that to good old Julie here." Kaelie and Lacey laugh.
"Hey, man. Stop it okay. It's not her fault she didn't know the difference." I didn't think before I spoke. I also didn't notice that everyone had been listening, as they all burst into laughter. Juliet shrunk back into her chair a little more and Janie shot me a sour look.
"Good one bro." I smile as Marco pats me on the back. Juliet winces a little as guilt settles in my stomach.
Janie Briggs
Just when I thought at least one of them was decent.

A/N
Okay, so, what did you think?
Janie's a pretty feisty character isn't she? Marco is a douche and Romeo may talk before he knows what he is saying. Kaelie and Lacey will be described later btw... Next chapter may be long but will set the main plot line hopefully...
