Mirabel wasn't sure why she was crying, no seriously. She was totally okay with the fact that her whole family abandoned her and the only person that cared for her was about to get the one thing she was denied.
Yes, Mirabel is fine.
Ok, she's not fine.
"Be strong." The giftless girl thought to herself.
Mirabel watched with a feigned mask of happiness as her little cousin touched the door handle, and for one selfish second she wished the door would fade.
However that simply wasn't meant to be.
The door handle glowed bright, and in effect so did the candle.
Alma Madrigal laughed in relief and happiness. "We have a new gift!"
Mirabel bit her lip so hard she felt it bleed, this wasn't fair, not at all.
People rushed into Antonio's room, some harshly pushing Mirabel out of the way to get in.
"Why bother? It's not like they'll notice me anyway." The fifteen year old thought bitterly.
Feeling rejected and bitter, Mirabel walked away from the new door and went outside.
"This sucks. Life sucks." She muttered feeling fresh tears roll down her face. Not even a second later she harshly wiped them away.
She wasn't going to cry, not now, not ever. It wasn't her fault her family decided she wasn't worth their love or attention, and it sure as hell wasn't her fault she didn't get a gift.
Taking a calming breath, Mirabel thought about another thing that made her happy.
And only one thing came mind.
Josie.
Josie Hayushu was a three year old girl that lived in the village, she and her family adored Mirabel and the feeling was definitely mutual.
A smile made it's way onto Mirabel's face. "She's probably arguing about what time she should go to bed right now."
Josie was one sassy three year old.
Letting out a laugh, Mirabel took a calming breath. She wasn't alone, and she had to stop thinking she was.
Afterall, she still had the Hayushu family and for now that was enough.
Deciding it was time to see Antonio, the fifteen year old walked back inside to join everyone else in Antonio's new room.
---
A girl with dark raven hair and hazel eyes watched the crowd before her.
Her eyes narrowed in poorly hidden disgust.
Anaïs Graunt was not a happy camper.
Why?
Oh, it's pretty simple honestly.
Her parents had just forced her and her brothers to go to the new Madrigals stupid gift ceremony.
So now, she was just sulking in the corner with her two siblings, Jamie and Rowan.
"This isn't even that impressive. It's just a stupid jungle, who the hell would want to sleep in a jungle?!" The raven haired girl thought in annoyance.
Letting out a huff, the Graunt girl let her eyes travel around the crowd of people, she really wasn't impressed.
She could identify almost everyone here, the only people that weren't present are the Hayushu family and Mirabel Madrigal herself.
