After that freakish encounter with my best friends, who were from a universe that exploded from a nuclear bomb explosion, I looked inside the burlap bag. Inside, was a refillable water bottle, flashlight, change of clothes, and some safety equipment.
"Why would I need safety equipment?" I frowned, pulling out the gear.
Rosalind shrugged. "Something about precautions, and according to Boss J-"
"Wait, who's Boss J?" I shook the water bottle to find it was full of water.
Isabelle facepalmed. "That's Rosalind's nickname for Jace. He's our 'boss'."
Searching my memory for a person named 'Jace', I suddenly remember the college janitor that, for whatever reason, decided to work as a janitor while in college. Dude didn't want to work in Starbucks, and chose the old highschool he used to be in.
Fiddling with the ends of her hair, Rosalind elbowed Isabelle. "That's not really the reason why I call him Boss J. Boss J stands for Boss Janitor!"
Isabelle looked surprised. "Oh that's why?" Shrugging her burlap bag over her shoulder, she continued, "Anyway, he's also from an alternate universe, but he's like 500 years old already. Something about him coming from a universe where everyone was obsessed with Twilight and ended up actually making vampires and one of them biting him."
"Does he glitter in the sunshine then?" I asked drily. I had tried Twilight before, and found it slightly boring. Didn't stop me from reading it though.
Rosalind snapped her fingers. "That's what I asked!" Then she paused and pushed her clear glasses onto her head. Squinting at me, she threw them back on. "And he said, shut up, no I don't, why do you think I'm in cali then."
Footsteps outside stopped Rosalind from continuing her anecdote, and Isabelle dragged me behind a particularly large mop. Spying a mop of gray-black hair, I peeked out a little, and recognized Jace. Ice blue eyes, and gray-black hair, he used to intimidate me. But now, knowing about the Twilight universe, I couldn't help but laugh.
"Shut up Summer!" Rosalind hissed, throwing a hand over my mouth. "Do you want to get us caught?"
I shook my head, and took her hand off of my mouth. "It's only Jace, guys."
"Boss J!!" Rosalind jumped out and gave a quick salute. "We were just prepping them, a-and-"
Jace cut her stuttering dialogue and stepped into the machine. "Stop talking, R. Come on I, and, I'm going to guess you're Summer? You'll be S then."
I looked behind at the janitors' closet, and although all I could see was mops and brooms, buckets and trash cans, I thought I saw the whole world. I thought I saw the whole alternate universe. Stepping into the machine, squished together with Isabelle, Rosalind, and Jace, I felt determination.
I was determined to learn the truths of Liam's death, the truths of his willingness.
And maybe then, I can let go of the guilt and dread.
Maybe then, I can let it go.
Jace said something to Rosalind, who nodded and hitched her hair up into a messy bun.
"Operation A Million Whys for You, successfully launched." Jace said.
"Wait Boss J-"
And then, Jace pressed the button, and a white flash of light blinded me.
I AM ON FIRE!! 2 UPDATES IN 2 DAYS!! And who do you think Jace is? HEHEHEHEHE ;)
Do you guys like Twilight? I don't, tried reading it and quit, unlike Summer. Tell me your thoughts in the comments.
