3rd person pov
they went back to the chateau the next morning, big john hugged canyon and she hugged him back as they all smiled at the sight of him. jj jumped on his back as he hugged him. soon enough, they all sat down and john b began to explain everything to them
"yeah so we , we went to the archives in charleston and it was. it was a dead end, a dry hole" john b said but canyon noticed the way big john looked at him and the way he looked at big john. they were hiding something.
"so that's the gold, the cross, and now el dorado. we're three-for-three, guys. the streak continues, that's great" pope said and he walked off with canyon following after him.
"hes lying, I know it" pope said and canyon nodded
"yeah but what do we do about that?" she asked and he shrugged. we wished he knew what to do but he didn't. it felt like they didn't know each other anymore and that was hard.
"I'm going to try and get back into school. i really need to do it for myself" he stated and she nodded
"yeah okay" she exclaimed
"are you going to come with me?" he asked and she shook her head
"nah I have to go home and see my parents" she stated and he leaned in as he kissed her and she kissed him back with a smile on her face
"hey, I trust you to be safe. you got this" she told him and he smiled as he walked away and she did too. when she got home, there was jj sitting on the porch and she looked at him
"I got fired, the house is shut down and I don't know what to do. you told me that I could always come here when I needed you" he said and she nodded. she opened the door and he walked in with her.
"mom, dad I'm back" she called and they got up as they saw jj
"jj" molly said and she walked over as she hugged him and jj sighed into her shoulder as she let go and jackson hugged him too. canyon smiled at the sight and then she walked with jj as jackson got him some clothes
"can I take a shower?" he asked and she nodded
"yeah here. my dad have me them for you. bathroom is down the hall on the left" she exclaimed and he smiled as he walked off. canyon like that she could give some form of normality and comfort after everything all of them had gone through together. she liked that she could do that for him.
she laid down on her bed and stared at the ceiling as she waited for jj. when he was done, she turned and saw him
"well you clean up nice" she stated and he smiled.
"so can I stay here tonight?" he asked
"of course you can j, you don't have to ask. guess bedroom is always open to you" she told him and he walked forward as he hugged her and she hugged him back. she could smell that he used her strawberry shampoo and she smiled at it.
"I'm going to go hang out in there, get used to it. you going to find pope later?" he asked and she nodded as she ran a hand through her hair
"yeah, hes trying to get back into school but I cant do that. ill go back next year and work it out but right now. no way in hell"
"there's something else" jj said and she looked at him
"whats up j?" she asked and he sighed
"rafe, he melted down the cross when I was trying to get my job back. i heard him and barry talking about it. he melted it down and hes been selling it" he stated and canyon groaned
"fucking asshole" she exclaimed and then from downstairs, she heard a knock on the door and she looked at jj
"think that's him?" he asked and she shrugged as she stood up from her bed and walked downstairs. she opened the door and there was pope with cleo close behind him.
"hey whats up?" she asked and pope sighed
"I quit school, lost my scholarship, lost all of my old classes and there's no way in actual hell that I am going back" he said and jj sighed as he ran a hand through his hair
"rafe melted down the cross. I'm sorry bro " jj blurted
"fuck! of course it was rafe, the cross of santa domingo, desecrated for money . this is messed up, man even for them and they're just going to keep getting away with it. they're going to keep doing that shit, they're going to keep winning" pope said and canyon turned
"is everything alright?" molly called
"yeah mom , we're okay. lets go talk outside" she exclaimed and they all walked outside and away from the house.
"pope , is that news to you?" jj asked
"no, and I'm sick of being the good guy" pope said and he walked off as canyon stared with cleo and jj. she didn't know what to do but she didn't think it was going to be good.
"ill go after him" she said and she ran after him as fast as she could. she tried to keep up but she couldn't. it was no use, she went to the marina and saw pope with a gun
"you sure about that?" she asked
"I don't care about this" he said and she walked up behind him
"think about your mom , your dad. what would they think?" she asked
"I think they would understand how I feel. for once, he would lose like we always do. it doesn't matter anyway, I've lost everything" he stated and she shook her head
"you have a family pope. you have the pogues and me. you have me" she said and he put down the gun as she wrapped her arms around him and let him cry
"I'm right here" she told him as he cried and she knew one thing
she would always have pope no matter what
