October
I sit up in a bed that may not be mine within the next few months.
At the most. My head against the headboard, the blanket low on my hips. I tilt my head to the side and look down at the one thing, or should I say person, that makes me feel things I've never felt for another person before, who might leave me too.
What I said to her, how I treated her, it was wrong of me and now she may never forgive me for it.
My world is crumbling before me and I don't know if I can put it back together this time.
I turn my attention down to my lap where my hands lay, fiddling with my nails as a way to cope or attempt to distract myself from the life I most likely will lose.
"Lewis?" I feel the bed move as Astoria sits up and moves closer to me.
My attention doesn't shift from my lap as I feel warm tears leave my eyes. In any other situation, I'd do anything in my power to keep anyone from seeing me cry. But I have nothing else. All I feel is the numb sensation of pain.
"Lewis, what's wrong?" I don't answer her. Even if I wanted to, the words wouldn't come out of my mouth. I can't feel my tongue, and my throat feels dry. I hear her sigh before she throws her leg over mine and sits on my lap. I can't find the power to move my head, which hangs low on my shoulders, my vision blurring by the second.
"Lewis, look at me. Please." My lip starts to quiver and the tears just won't stop pouring from my eyes. I feel Astorias hand on my jaw as she lifts my head up to look at her. As soon as her face is in the frame of my vision, it's like the single string holding everything together finally snaps.
She wraps her arms around me and hugs me as if she were hanging off a cliff and I was the only thing keeping her from falling. A sob leaves my mouth as I break down in her arms.

Half an hour later, we're still in the same exact position. I stopped crying about 10 minutes ago. I expected her to leave when she knew I was okay, I expected her to go back to her room last night. I expected her to leave me a long time ago.
She sits up in my lap and rubs her thumb on my cheek., comfortingly, gently."Do you want to tell me what happened?" I look down again in hesitation, which of course she catches."You don't have to. If you don't want to. But, I'm here if you do."
I slowly drag my eyes back to hers, which hold pure honesty, no humor is held in her eyes. I take a deep breath as she grabs my hand, interlocking our fingers together.
"Daddy's back. And he wants everything." Chuckle dryly causing her to rub her thumb over the back of my hand soothingly."He's going to take everything from me. He's finally found us and now he wants to take everything that I've built and run it into the ground." My voice cracks at the visionary.
