PROLOGUE
Here's The Main Rule: Don't Die

Luke Romanoff would like to say he was still grieving his mom's death hardcore, like it was yesterday, but he'd be lying. He missed his mom, but over time, he had just become numb to the empty spot at the table where she used to sit. His life was back, somewhat.

Ever since he had found the drumset left to him from Tony, he had found himself taking a liking to them. It allowed him to let out anger without killing someone again. He had blood on his hands. What could he do? It wasn't that long after he heard his mom wasn't coming back. And hell, the guy deserved it, he was an asshole.

Luke had his headphones on, listening to Ac/Dc as one drumstick hit the snare and the other hit the hi-hat. The lyrics to 'Back In Black' were blasting in his ears, it was a miracle that he could still hear, but at that moment, it meant he couldn't hear the knocking on his bedroom door. He also couldn't hear Moose barking to get his attention to the door. Then Moose ran over and grabbed the drumsticks with his mouth and moved to the other side of the room with them. Luke took his headphones off, letting them hang around his neck, then he heard the knocking.

"It's open." He sighed. His voice was hoarse. If someone didn't know any better, they'd think he spent three years yelling at nothing.

"Hey... just wanted to check in on you." Laura said.

Luke was always grateful that Laura and Clint let him stay there and let him set up the drumset there too. Clint had found a way to drown the sound out enough from the outside so it didn't disturb anyone too much.

Luke shrugged, "I feel fine."

"Peter tried calling you by the way."

Luke had his back turned to her to put away his headphones, "how do you know?"

"'Cause he called the house phone after he tried to call you. Apparently, a club, school or class is going on a trip to Europe, and Peter invited you and Moose to join." Laura told him.

Luke turned around to face her, "Laura, I don't wan—"

"You're going." She told him firmly. He hadn't been out of the house that much except for in the yard. Then she left the room, closing the door.

Luke grabbed his phone, sitting on the bed while Moose curled up beside him. He looked at the missed calls and messages. He exhaled and finally clicked Peter's contact/call button. It rang for a few minutes before Peter answered.

"Hey."

"Sorry I missed your call... I was playing Ac/Dc on the drums and my headphones were on—"

"It's alright, Luke! So, pack your bags and meet me at the apartment. May said you can stay here overnight and she'll drive us both to the airport."

Luke blinked in confusion. "Whoa, what do you mean 'pack your bags and meet me at the apartment'. You're making it seem like we're leaving tomorrow." Luke questioned.

"Yeah!"

"And you didn't warn me!? Peter, I need advanced warning for these things!" Luke exclaimed, running and tripping on air as he went to grab the carry-on suitcase that was empty.

"Did you trip on something?" Peter asked.

"No..." Luke lied.

"Liar." Peter said in a sing-song voice.

"Okay, I'm gonna pack stuff now. I'll text you when I'm on my way. Shit! I have to find a way for Moose to—"

"Mr. Harrington and I sorted it out with the airline already. And you're sitting with me." Peter assured him.

"You did that?"

"Yeah, of course."

"Okay, bye, I'll see you soon." Luke said, hanging up.

An hour went by and Luke managed to pack everything, he went downstairs and grabbed his passport off the counter. "Laura!" Luke hollered, standing in the front doorway since Laura was outside.

"Yeah?"

"I need a ride to Peter's."

"Okay, give me a minute to put this away!"

Luke nodded, calling Moose over. "Okay, buddy, remember what I told you, just lay low." Luke told him.

"Alright, let's go. I got the truck today."

"Where is Clint?"

"Oh, him and the kids are already planning their little trip to the city for a few days in winter."

Luke nodded absentmindedly, getting in the truck. Luke texted Peter when they were a few minutes away from the apartment: 'See you in a minute'.

Laura parked in the parking lot and turned to Luke. "Okay, I'll see you soon. Call whenever you can, okay? Don't cause a fight unless you have to and don't die." Laura told him. "Have fun and be safe."

"I will." Luke said, hugging Laura. "Come on, Moose."

Peter just planned the entire thing out and we love him for that

I would like it to be known that Luke is terrified of flying, so that'll be fun

Okay, bye!
