"Y/N Y/L/N?"

I turn from my spot in the lobby making eye contact with the older woman who called my name. A soft inviting smile on her face lets me know she seems as genuine as she looks, her hand coming out to take mine in a warm handshake.

"My name is Carol Peters, I'm the personal assistant to one of the Co-Founders of The Outset, Kate Foster Lengyel." I nod my head in understanding, taking her hand in mine, and giving it the same warm handshake she gave to me.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Carol." I beam at her. She holds her hand out in front of her "Shall we?" I nod before we are making our way over to the elevators, pressing the button and patiently waiting for it to arrive. We are only standing in silence for 30 seconds before the doors open and we take our place inside. I take a mental note of the floor we're heading to. 34.

We make small talk as we wait to stop at our destination. The ding of the elevator shortly after notifying us we have arrived. Carol steps out onto the floor first followed by myself. Carol begins to point out various things in the large office space.

I notice two office doors to the left, one with a plaque that says 'Scarlett Johansson Co-Founder and CEO' while another has no plaque but from what I can see has a desk inside, which I'm assuming is for the personal assistant, for me.

There's a middle-aged pregnant woman sitting at an 'L' shaped desk not too far from Ms. Johanssons' office door answering the phone and typing away at her keyboard. Her secretary. Not too far away in the same area is a small seating area lined with a few coffee and end tables, lamps, and some overly expensive, plush leather chairs, which if I'm guessing correctly are for guests to wait for Ms. Johansson.

Along the walls are different portraits of models and the skin care products that The Outset creates and sells. To the far right, there is a couple of more doors, one open showing a room filled with fax machines, printers, and office supplies lining the walls. Another door open next to it looks like a break room with a fridge, microwave, sink, and table with a few chairs.

I see a unisex sign on a door signaling the bathroom. The last door in the office space is currently closed but through the windows, I can make out the blurry outlines of a large table occupied by a few bodies. I hear a voice call my name, looking over I see a blonde making her way towards me, a VERY pregnant blonde, jeez is everyone pregnant at this place?

My eyes scan her body before coming back up to her lips where a soft smile lays before I finally meet her eyes where I can tell the smile has definitely reached. Her hand comes out to mine and I immediately take it "Grace Caldwell" she shakes my hand "Y/N Y/L/N" I respond, mentally slapping myself in the leg. She already knows my name or she wouldn't have called it out.

Grace and Carol exchange a warm hug and I smile at the interaction. "So you're the one replacing me while I'm on maternity leave?" she ask with a quirked brow and my cheeks redden "I-I umm yes?" I stutter out. Grace lets a soft laugh tumble from her lips "I have to say, I've heard nothing but good things about you from Nicole." my eyes widened at her comment.

"You know Nicole?" "We use to be roommates before I got engaged to my now husband Tyler." I nod my head before she continues "When Ms. Johansson left me in charge of finding my replacement I knew the best person to reach out to was Nicole. She has yet to fail me when sending over hard workers. Her temp agency is one of the best if not the best in the whole city."

I nod my head in agreement and smile "Nicole is the best, truly." I beam a wide smile as I think about my best friend. Carol pats my shoulder softly "Alright ladies, I think it's time I take my leave." I smile to myself when I see a slight pout take over Grace's lips. Carol's hand takes Grace's hand and squeezes "I'll see you later, promise." Carol cups Graces cheek in a loving manner before she's pulling Grace into a tight embrace and kissing her cheek.

My eyes widen at the unexpected actions "I love you, sweetheart." Carol says and my jaw goes slack for just a few seconds before I pick it up "I love you to mom" Grace smiles up at the older woman. Ahh, and there it is. They're mother and daughter. Not super uncommon to have family members working in the same workplace, but now that I take a closer look at them I can see the similarities.

Carol says goodbye once more before heading to the elevator, I curiously watch the doors close. "Is her office not on this floor?" I ask, now thinking about how I only saw one extra office in the office space for an assistant. Grace lets out a soft chuckle "Oh heavens no, Ms. Johansson and Mrs. Lengyel have their own floor. Mrs. Lengyel's floor is just one down from us." I nod my head in understanding.

We take a few moments to get acquainted with one another before Grace starts to officially show me around the floor. She points to the conference room and lets me know that Ms. Johansson is currently in a meeting with a few investors and Mrs. Lengyel. It's not even 8:30 am and they're already in a meeting, I got here at 7:30 am, which brings me to wonder what time did this meeting start.

We end up in Grace's office, with the door open as she talks me through a normal day for her and what's to be expected of her and now me. I'm deep in concentration as I jot down notes as she relays important dates, numbers, and details that I'll need to know for the next 10 weeks. My hand furiously scribbles down notes, my bottom lip between my teeth trying to also mentally remember the majority of what I'm hearing.

Behind me, a throat clears. Grace's face brightens up and a huge smile takes over.

"Ms. Johansson!" she exclaims excitedly and goes to stand from her chair "I'd like to introduce you to-" turning around to meet my new boss, my throat goes dry. My eyes widen and my stomach drops. I swallow thickly as I take in the woman in front of me, the urge to throw up, run away, and hide is starting to surface.

"Y/N" her husky voice drips with pleasant surprise, sauntering over to me she holds out her hand for me to take "so nice to see you again."

She pulls me in, her lips but a breath away from my ear "Well, isn't this just the nicest of surprises." she rasps out in a satisfied whisper, I can hear the shit-eating grin in her low, raspy voice.

I'm so screwed.
