"Smile!" Luke gave Harmony an unfair warning before he snapped a picture on their disposable camera they had bought for their trip.
They had three days off and didn't want to spend it club hopping with the boys. The party scene failed to further impress them, instead they grew to love the idea of driving until they ran out of road. So that first day they did just that, they hopped on the interstate heading west and drove all the way to Georgia. Every state they passed was a different pose, a different picture.
Arizona was a peace sign, New Mexico was a kiss on the cheek. Texas lent them some props (two cowboy hats), and Louisiana came with a beautiful scenery.
They had currently stopped at Alabama, and Luke held the camera.
"Can you stop wasting our film and get your butt over here." Harmony crossed her arms with a playful frown.
He laughed but quickly walked next to her and held the camera out in front of them.
When they were back on the road, they watched as the state expanded west.
"You know it like, really, and I honestly mean really hard to not look at you. Its reached the point of shameless staring if I must be honest." Luke said over the soft noise of the static-sounding radio.
Without looking at him she smiled. As she stared at the extending road she slowly brought her hand to discreetly cover the smile on her lips.
She felt his stare on her side often, and she swore she would even see him smile occasionally. She never mentioned it but, it was obvious that he was always looking.
As they drove she shuffled through the pictures in the camera. The pictures were hilarious, and worth appreciating every single snap.
"I really like this one, a lot actually."
When she have him the camera the image was one they had taken on in the car. Luke had taken it from behind the steering wheel and Harmony was looking ahead with the most carefree expression.
"Well as always little Monie wasnt paying attention." Luke laughed at her annoyed glare.
"It was a good waste of film, man."
Luke chuckled and shook his head but, then reached over and angled his arm above the dashboard. Quickly without a second of process he leaned in and kissed her, clicking the button to capture the unexpected move.
"I wasn't ready for that either, stop wasting the damn film!" She said taking the camera out of his hand.
He just leaned back in his seat with the most prideful smile he could obtain.
"Are you proud, that was smoooooooth. I bet you are really happy I mean- oh wait."
She stopped her bickering and smiled at the shot, falling in love with it. It was the cutest thing to her in the weirdest way.
"What?" Luke noticed her appalled facials.
"I gotta give it to ya here.." She slowly but down on her lip, once again too prideful to genuinely smile.
"You should print all of these when we get back, they would make great memories. I'm not a very cheesy guy but-"
"well, actually you are very cheesy.." Harmony interrupted.
"Whatever so are you, but I'm serious. I want to have these when we go back on tour, just to help me remember how awesome we are when we're together."
"As if you could forget.." Harmony rolled her eyes and laughed sarcastically.
"What even is a Harmony?" Luke laughed, probably really happy with his 'hilarious' joke.
As always she scolded him.
"Please tell me you know I'm kidding." Luke turned slightly to look at her.
"I know Luke, I just know that being away for a long time sometimes means forgetting. I would hate to see you on a magazine and asking myself 'I wonder where he is?'. "
He stayed silently contemplating what she said, but her mentally agreed with himself that he would let nothing in his brain allow him to for one second, ignore the thought of every second he spent with her. So quickly she had become he reliance on happiness and he had no doubt that one day she would shine by his side. He hadn't quite told her but he did love her. Much more than he thought he would, and much more than his friends had planned for him to.
"I won't, I cannot."
It was then her who reached over for his hand, and laced her fingers in the place her hands had recently found home.
"That should be a problem." he reassured.
With that he softly touched his lips to her hand and continued to let the road take them to the next best place they could find. Regardless the destination, they were going to be alright.
