~3 years later~

"Hello?" I answer in a groggy voice. My cold phone is pressed against my ear, the moonlight streaming through the window the only thing I can see by. "Beck?" I hear a familiar female voice say. "It's," I pause to look at my clock before answering, "1 in the morning. What?" I groan. "Is that anyway to talk to you best friend?" "When it's 1 in the morning, yes." I retort and I can tell she's holding back a giggle. "What do you want Lil?" I ask wanting to go back to sleep. "There is something important I need from you." "At 1 in the morning?" "Yes. Look at your window." I turn my head to the window, to see a small frail silhouette in the moonlight. The window opens with a small creak and the ninja like figure jumps into my room. "Hey Beck." She chirps. "You're too happy at this ungodly hour." I say like an old lady. "You sound like my grandma." She laughs. "What do you want?" I sigh and get up, but as soon as I do I miss the company of my soft blankets.

"Okay, don't let me cry. But, Jay is leaving for England and he wants me to go with him. I haven't told my parents." "Why do I need to know this now?" "Because you love me. Anyway, this is where you come into play. I need you to help me be like Margo Roth Spiegelman in Paper Towns, and leave clues. But, they can't see us. So, put this on, get some sleep, we start this plan at 0300 hours." "Fine." I groan and put on the perfect fitting ninja suit. "Your lucky I love you." I say and she walks back to the window and climbs out. "She's insane. Utterly insane." I mumble to myself and go to sleep for another 2 hours. "Beck. Let's go, we have around 3 hours since I delayed my parents alarm clock, and set all the clocks back, also, the windows are painted black, and the door is locked from the outside, and they can't leave the house." I hear Lilly say from beside me. I roll over and get up. "Alright, let's be ninjas." I sigh and she enthusiastically leads me to the window. We run to her car, and I see a bunch of cans of paint, a bunch of coffee, and a whole garbage bag filled with who knows what. "I have England flags, with arrows pointing to my room hung up, and then in my room, they will have to find a piece of paper that has that door quote from Paper Towns on it, and then," she takes a breath and I put a hand up, signaling for her to stop.

"And then they will open the door, and find a picture of Jay, and you with a note on the back that says where you went. Am I right?" She just nods and we pull into her driveway. "Go go go!" She whisper shouts. I follow her to her room, hide a book that has the clue in it, and put another flag up, on the book shelf, with an arrow pointing to the book. "Done." I say as Lilly finishes with the door. "Done." "I want the ninja suit back." She says and we jump out the window and go back to my house where I proceed to give her the ninja suit and then go to sleep, and she leaves. "Goodbye." "See you later. Not goodbye." I say and my breath hitches. "Yeah. See you later." She says before jumping out the window, and driving off to the airport where I assume she'll meet Jay.

In the morning I wake up and get ready for school. I drive to Lilly's where her parents are in the driveway flinging bags and suitcases into their car. "Sorry Beck, Lilly isn't here." Lilly's mom says to me in a rushed tone. "I know." "What?" She questions. "I know that she left. I helped her." I say in a soft tone. "How could you help her leave? She's only 18!" She shouts. "Come on Meg." Lilly's dad urges and he hops in the car, Meg following. She shoots me a glare, before the car speeds off. "Mleh!" I mock, sounding more like a dying cat. "Hun, what happened to Lilly's parents, they came here earlier asking where Lilly was?" "Did they not follow the clues?" "They said something about clues, but what does that have to do with Lilly?" "Lilly left clues to where she went, which, by the way, is England with Jay." "Why?" "Because he wanted to spend the rest of his life with the one he loves, is that so wrong?" After a while of this pointless arguing, I go out and try to find some of my other friends.

"Hey Beck!" A voice chirps, I turn my head to see my friend Jenna. "Hey Jenna." I mumble. "Where's Lilly? You two were so close. Did you get in a fight?" "What is this? 20 questions?" I snap. "Sorry, that sounded rude. I'm just, kinda alone right now." I mumble the last part so she can't hear me. "It's okay. I've just never seen you without Lilly right by your side." She says in a small voice. "So. Wanna hang out?" She asks and I perk up. "Sure." I say in a cheery voice. "Come on, we can hang out at the park." She urges and I walk to the park with her. Once we get to the park, I see a group of 3 or 5 people. "Beck, meet my band, band, meet Beck." Jenna says and I raise an eyebrow. "Do they have names?" I ask and she smiles. "Meet, Naomi, Megan, Kyle, and Michael." "Hi, Michael, you have such a pretty name." Michael says shaking my hand. "Thanks, I came up with it." I say, completely flustered, by the boy before me. "Uh, I mean, my parents did, why would I come up with my own name." I add, with an awkward laugh. "You're funny." A tall Blondie says. "Megan. Nice to meet you." She says, and puts down her cello. "You play an instrument?" Another girl, with long shaggy black hair and ice blue eyes, who I assume is Naomi. "Well, I sing but-" I start, but she cuts me off. "Great! We need a singer." She squeals. "Okay. But I'm not that good." "Try us." A tall boy with shaggy hair, Kyle I assume, says. "Okay." I say and think of a song to sing.

(This song is "Skinny Love" by Birdy, I own nothing)

"Come on skinny love just last the year, pour a little salt, we were never he-ere, my my my, my my my, my-my my-my, staring at the sink if blood and crushed veneer. Tell my love to wreck it all, cut out all the ropes and let me fa-all! My my my, my my my, my-my-my. Right in the moment this order's tall." I sing the last part softer, and look up, to wide eyes, wanting more of the song. "And I told you to be patient, and I told you to be fine, and I told you to be balanced and I told you to be kind. Cause in the morning I'll be with you, but it will be a different "kind" cause I'll be holding all the tickets, and you'll be owning all the fines. Come on skinny love what happened here? Suckle all the hope in light brassiere. My my my, my my my, my-my my-my. Sullen load is full, so slow on the split. And I told you to be patient and I told you to be fine, and I told you to be balanced, and I told you to be kind. And now all your love was wasted, now who the hell was I? Cause I'm breaking at the britches, and at the end of all your lines. Who will love you? Who will fight? And who will fa-all, far behind? Come on skinny lo-ove! My my my, my my my, my-my my-my, my my my, my my my, my-my my-my." I stand in silence for a while, as they sit and think over my being a singer in their little group.

They begin to clap, and rise from their spots on the ground, or on chairs. "Looks like we have a new singer." Naomi says with a smile. "Thanks." I say, a rise of hot blush, coming to my cheeks.
