I'm not antisocial, I just rather not interfere with the good and evil bit. People are not my strong suit, although politics, I'm fucking great at. The public loves me!
'The relatable Icarus'
'The powerfully quirkless'
'The sanity of district 19'
Truth is, I'm far from sain. Me, Icarus, vigilante-glock-wilder-extraordinaire, is what my team calls me. Icarus, Insufferable little shit, is what the hero's call me. Icarus, the business, is what villains call me. Finally, Icarus, the hero of district 19 & 20.
I'm not a hero, though I do 80% of their workload. I'm not a villain, even if I work with 80% of them. I'm not a vigilante either, even if 80% views me as one. Truth is, I'm a non-Believer. Nobody gives 2 shits, who I am beyond that.
My mother told me, don't be a quitter. My father told me he knew I would. My brothers told me, Don't give a damn. My sister, she told me, do something good. So in the end I just let go.
So here I am letting go of the grappling gun, as I walk into my favorite casino is district 4. Run by the one and only, Loki. My favorite villain.
"Ayup Icarus!" I walk over and sit down on a bar stool. He cleans a glass behind the counter.
"Business is up, I need money, so I'm here to gamble. 70 chips, please!" I answer.
"Slow down Ace, each chip is 100." I pull out a wad of 100'ds.
"This good?" I hand it to him.
"Yup! Have fun." He says giving me a glass of wine.
"Will do Loki!" I walk down to the tables of card games and watch one by giant open windows, the 21st floor. The players are some rich dumbasses, and one interesting one. Nuke: her quirk is super intelligence. She is hella good at gambling because she reads body language like it was her first. She throws the game when she sees me.
"Call." She wins with 4 Aces.
"Here to gamble?" She asks me.
"With you of course," I answer
"Alright pull up a chair." she answers and the dealer opens a new deck of cards. I get dealt 2 kings & an ace. By the look in Nukes eyes, she has 3 Aces, a good hand but not good enough. The dealer sets 3 cards on the table, 1 is viewed 2 are not. Ok so from the card thats viewed my hand is a pair, an ace, and a 3. I have a plan.
"I bet 2 chips, hand me 2 cards." I set down my pair of kings and he hands me 2 cards from the deck. I got a 2 and a 10. Perfect.
"Up 10 chips, hand me 2 cards." She is trying to make me fold."
"Ok, up it 2, hand me a card, I call the next card a joker." I say & see the frustration in nukes eyes. She probably thinks I'm crazy because there's 50 cards in the deck and we only see around 20. Only 2 jokers per deck.
"Up it another 10." She says & her face turns to shock as a joker appears from the flipped card. She is stupid, the game isn't about betting the most. The game is about manipulation. Make the opponent think you have the best hand.
"Give me another card, up to 20." I say throwing in the chips.
"Up 40." She wants me to fold.
"Up 50." I buy a shit ton of more chips from the dealer. She is panicking. Very smart, but rash in situations where she needs to be calm.
"Up 400." I but more chips and throw them in
"Up 10,000." I say and she throws it in
"Up 2." that's all she has left."
