"Granny smith or gala?" I ask, holding up the two apples in my hands, looking at both indecisively.

"Hmm..," Alexander hums, stroking his chin. "Granny." He continued, pointing at the green apple in my left hand. I nod my head in approval. He's right; a granny smith apple would taste way better in an apple pie than a gala.

"I bet it's going to taste wonderful. Save me a slice, will you?"

"If I don't eat all of it by the next time I see you," I laugh, giving him a big smile before putting the apple into my basket.

"You better." He grins.

As we continued to walk through the shops, I was rudely stopped by Maddison, crossing her arms with a nasty look on her face. "Daisy, thank you for the invite to the picnic last Sunday. Heard it was delightful." She says sarcastically with a rude tone.

"It was a more private thing," Alexander says, stepping in front of me while slightly shaking his head at her. "Well, I was a part of the group before I was rudely kicked out. Not my problem you're jealous of me." She scoffed, looking my way as she said the word jealous.

Someone humble this girl.

"Why would she be jealous of you?" He asked; she laughed, looking me up and down. "Look at her. Her funky wardrobe says it all." She says as she covers her mouth to let out a chuckle. "You have a lot of nerve Maddison, coming up to us, bothering our morning." He doesn't let me talk and keeps standing up for me.

"Just let it go. Let's get out of here." I finally say, grabbing his hand. He takes my hand and walks away, taking me with him.

"Let me know when you get bored of her. Maybe we can do something together." She shouts, giving us a wave.

The day I get my hands on that cunt, it's over for her. I don't care about that flirty comment she made to him. I don't appreciate the way she embarrassed me in front of him. All she's done since the first day I met her is be rude to me. She always tried to prove she was better than me. No one knows how bad she's been toward me, whenever we were alone she would push me to the ground and say nasty things to me. It made me not want to ever play outside anymore but Alexander would always drag me out of the house.

Before I know it, tears were falling from my eyes. Gosh, why am I letting her get to me so much? She's been like this for as long as I can remember. Why now?

I quickly wipe the tears away, not wanting him to see me crying. I was too late, he saw. "Hey, don't cry." He held up my chin with one hand as the other hand wiped the tear falling from my eye. "She not worth a tear." Stroking the side of my face with his thumb. I looked up, letting my eyes catch his gaze. He smiled at me, "You're too beautiful to cry."

Where did all his confidence come from? I remember him being so scared to say a word to any girl that talked to him. He would always chop up his sentences, making me laugh every time.

"Has she been like this since I've been gone too?" I shrug my shoulders in response. She has, but I don't want to embarrass myself even more in front of him. "Well, I think your style is amazing." He says, kissing my cheek.

"Thank you for defending me. You didn't have to," I sigh.

"Of course I did. You're my best friend. Now I say we go make that apple pie together, shall we?" He asks, holding out his hand for me to take it.

Ouch, best friends. I have officially been friend-zoned.

~

"Grab that egg for me, please," I say, pointing toward the carton of eggs sitting on the counter.

He walks to the counter and grabs the egg before handing it to me. "Thank you, my dearest friend." I shoot back at him. Still not over that friend zone.

I suppose I'm not supposed to care. We never had feeling for each other when we were younger. There's just something different about him. What happened earlier at the shops did something to me. The way he touched my face, the way we looked at each other. When my gaze met his. He also stood up for me when he didn't have to. Am I seriously catching feeling for him?

"Daisy!" I jump.

"You're burning the filling." I look down at the pot to see the sugar burnt. "I'm so sorry." I panic, turning off the heat from the stovetop. "And they said you were a great cook." He chuckled, crossing his arms as he leans up against the counter to look at me.

"Shut up." I snap back at him, removing that stupid smirk from his face.

"What were you thinking about?" He scooted closer to me, making me nervous. "Nothing." I stutter as he continues to get closer to me.

"Oh really?" My breaths get heavier as he gets closer.

"I'm just joking, this isn't an interrogation." He laughs. I roll my eyes at his stupid joke before returning to clean up my mess.

"Whatever was on your mind must be top secret." He says, throwing his hands up in the air like he's offended. "I was just stressing." I lie.

"Well, whatever it was, just forget about it. Let's start over." He says smiling, getting more sugar from the pantry.

I need to stop hanging out with him so much before I do something I'll regret. I'm now one hundred percent sure I have feelings for Alexander, my childhood best friend.
