QUIETLY, Iris James sat outside one of her high school friend's house, waiting on him to open the door. Her friend, Jonas, is a literal pro at making fake IDs, passports, and anything else illegal like that.

"Iris!" He exclaimed, pulling her into a hug. "It's been a while, I've missed you!"

Iris smiled, scratching her upper thigh. "I need a fake ID." She stopped, looking up. "I need to get out of here, Jonas."

The black man furrowed his brows, nodding. "Zayn?" He questioned.

The Zayn he speaks of was Iris' boyfriend who physically, sexually, and verbally abused her until she finally left two days ago. But holy shit did he totally fuck up Iris' view on love and men in general or what?

Iris nodded. "Just redid my hair for a new picture," she smiled, weakness clear in her eyes. The bags underneath them made it clear how worn out she was.

The reason she is so tired is because she drove two nights straight to get to Jonas, who lives in the beautiful city of San Francisco.

"Alright." Jonas moved to let her in and rubbed his chin. "Why don't you just fill out the sheet and I'll take your picture, and then you can get some rest while I put it together? I love you, Iris, but you look like shit."

Iris laughed, nodding. "Alright."

She moved to the couch and looked down at the clipboard Jonas handed to her. What the hell should my new name be? She asked herself. Iris continued to think until she realized what she wanted. She's always loved outer space and things like that.

Nova Marie Johnson, she wrote into the name space. She went on and finished the rest of the sheet and wandered around the house until she found Jonas. He sat behind a camera with a smile on his face.

He motioned for Iris to sit and looked into the small hole. "Look up a bit," the man whispered, his tongue sticking out of the corner of his mouth.

She did as told and smiled. It was a small smile: no teeth and no emotion shown. But, she does look gorgeous.

After finishing, Jonas showed her to a bed and left her to sleep.

An hour later, Jonas perfected Iris' card and printed it out. "Nova," he whispered, shaking the woman slightly. "Wake up, I'm finished."

The woman stirred for a moment before stifling out a laugh. "Nova?" She asked. "How do you m-" she stopped herself, remembering her fake name change. "Right."

She hopped up, looking at the drivers license that was placed into her hand. "Thank you, Jonas. I can't risk him finding me, you know?"

Nova headed to the door, smiling and wrapping her arms around him as they reached it. "It's no problem. Anything for my Nova."

The woman laughed, pulling away. "I'll call you if I need you. Take care."

"You too, love," Jonas replied as he watched Nova hop into her car and drive off to who knows where.

In the car, Nova let out a huge sigh and smiled. She doesn't know what the future holds, but she'll be damned if she doesn't find out. So, she went about driving and somehow ended up in Seattle a day and a half later.

She has no bank account, no friends or family, but she does have a pocket full of cash and hopeful view on what's to come; other than love, that is.

Author's Note: Okay wow this is the shortest prologue I've ever written, but I think it turned out fine. I'm very excited to see where this book goes! But I will warn you, she will constantly change her name in this! She started as Iris and now, until the next portion of the book, she'll be Nova!!
