I follow behind Oriana and her friends for about an hour. A safe distance so she won't catch me. My car was far from discreet but it could camouflage well in the darkness of the night.

Her long, light brown hair flows out of her helmet. She looks happy, even without me being able to see her face. Her female friend yells out, howling into the wind passing through them. Oriana was wild and defiant. She captivated me and I wanted to know her. Even if it had to be platonic.

The reason I proposed marriage was for my benefit and for the promise I had made her father five years ago. He had asked me to protect her. That if anything had happened to him or the Spade empire, I would be there for her to pick up the business he left behind.

The chances of that happening, in my mind, were slim. His family was powerful. He was always careful and guarded. And yet, here I was about to wed his daughter to keep what was left of his family afloat. That's what alliances were for, no? To help each other during the hardest times.

Love wasn't in the cards for me. I had made that clear to her. Luckily, she seemed more interested in books far more than she was in me. Those bored looks she gave me, made me want to spank them off her ass. But this was just business. Who cared if I was attracted to her? My only purpose is to help her, not to have her fall in love with me.

No. She would only get hurt by feeling anything romantic towards me. I could never give her what she wanted, and I didn't intend to.

The bright yellow motorcycle extends his hand out, signaling everyone to turn right. They all give him a thumbs up as they all follow behind him. Whoever was on the yellow motorcycle was the leader. He rode in the front, knowing well wherever they were planning on going.

I needed her safe. That was the only reason I was doing this. She wouldn't be safe until I could figure out who had murdered her father and brother. The deaths were marked as a tragic accident; but it was no accident. Anyone in this line of business knew better. And now, Oriana had a target on her back.

The path leads us into darkness. I slow down and completely turn off my lights. There were no more cars down this road. The only thing illuminating our path to their destination were their lights. Everything else was pitch black.

Trees pass us by as they start to speed up. Oriana lifts her head up, looking up at the stars that illuminates the night sky. Like this, she looks beautiful. Free. At peace with her friends.

I let her have this tonight. And the plans for the weekend. For this weekend she is free. Because once this is over for her, she begins her life shackled to me. As I do to her. This is what's best. For her and for her family. She needs this. I need this. We need this.
