The Beginning

My day started off as normal. Waking up at seven, getting dressed, eating, and going to my martial art classes. I live in America and I'm a junior high student in ninth grade and I'm 14 years old and my life is really boring. I do the same things everyday. I always think 'maybe today will be different'. And it never is.

I threw my bag over my shoulder at the end of the day and slammed the door shut, heading out back to walk home again. My walk home is incredibly long, sometimes I take short cuts and today's one of those times.

I shoved my hands in my pockets and watched my breath in the cold air, turning down an alley-way to get to my house. I stopped when my foot kicked an empty soda can. In front of it there was a piece of paper with the words 'Koro sensei'. I frowned and bent down, picking it up and thinking about it for a few seconds. My parents are strict and rich, so they made me learn multiple languages when I was younger, one of them being Japanese. And if my memory serves me right, this word means unkillable in Japanese.

"Koro-sensei," I mused out loud. "What a strange name." It wasn't a second later when a bright white light enveloped me and blinded me. What the hell is happening?

It was what felt like an eternity before I could see again.

"You'll be in class 3-E. We currently don't have enough room in the other classes. Sorry," a man said in front of me. He wasn't sorry. No way, no hell. "Here's the rules. Your teacher is a monster. You have until graduation to try and assassinate him or he'll destroy Earth. He already destroyed most of the moon. You'll be training there to become an assassin and trying to kill your teacher. His students call him Koro-sensei." He handed me a knife that felt like rubber. "It's lethal to the monster, but completely harmless to humans." Alright. Sorry. But what the freaking hell is happening here? One minute I was walking home from school, and now I'm in a totally different place. Oh well. I'll just roll with it. Let's see how this ends.

"Yes, sir," I said politely, guessing this man is the principal of whatever school I'm in.

"What's your name?" he asked strictly.

"Kardama Ashnah, sir," I said, realizing this is a place in japanese, so I have to put my last name in front of my first name.

"Good. You may leave. Up the mountain and you'll see the old campus grounds," the principal said. I nodded and got up, bowing quickly at my waist before getting lost in the building. Shit. I really should've asked for better instructions. It took me fifteen minutes to find the door. After that, it took me another ten minutes to figure out which direction to walk in. It took me another ten minutes to walk up the mountain to the old campus. When I got closer, I could hear voices talking.

"Karma's back," a voice said. I peered through the trees and saw a cocky red haired boy walking up to some creature that was yellow who looked like an octopus.

"It's nice to meet you, Mr. Akabane," the octopus said, holding out a tentacle.

"No need for formalities, teach," the boy replied. "Just call me Karma." He grabbed the tentacle and firmly shook it before the tentacle exploded into goo, causing the other students to let out sounds of shock and surprise.

"He's the first one to land a hit on Koro-sensei," one of them said.

The kid twirled a knife in his hand and then grinned up at Koro-sensei. "You know. It wasn't that hard to do this. I just had to cut it into strips and tape it onto my hand. I'm surprised you'd fall for such an amature move, teach."

"If there's anyone here who can kill him, it's Karma," the same voice from earlier said. I turned to look at the guy. He had blue hair in pigtails and bright blue eyes, a small notebook and pencil in his hands.

The other kid, Karma, he walked away and went inside the class. The octopus told the students to go inside and then turned to where I was watching.

"You can come out now. I am your new teacher, Koro-sensei," the octopus said, his face in a permanent smile. "Now, let's go introduce you to the class. I'm sure you'll fit right in in no time." I nodded and followed the squid inside.

"Students," Koro-sensei said. "We have a new student joining us today. Please tell us your name. We'd love to know it."

"Kardama Ashnah," I said, stepping into the classroom and studying every other kid.

"It's nice to meet you," Koro-sensei said.

"Pleasure's all mine," I replied smoothly, not bothering to shake his tentacle or acknowledge him anymore.

"You can go have a seat in the back next to Karma," Koro-sensei said. I moved down the rows and leaned back in my chair as I sat down, barely bothering to listen to Koro-sensei. Right now, I need to figure out how to get home and out of this strange place. This obviously isn't my world and I obviously don't belong here. I pulled out my knife and slid it around in my hand, getting the feel for the blade, glad my parents had made me take self defense and attack classes when I was younger. They even let me play with knives and weapons when I was outside. It's strange how much your parents can care for you but how much they can also despise you and neglect you even if they do care about you.

"Now, pair up with the person next to you to work on these problems," Koro-sensei ordered. I glanced around me and I'm in the back row which means I have to pair up with this Karma kid.

The papers were on our desks and Karma and I sort of ignored him until I finally looked up and studied him and how he behaved and actedl.

"Quit cheating off of my paper," Karma said suddenly. At least his voice was quiet when he said that.

"Why the hell do you think I'd cheat off of your paper?" I scowled at him.

"Because I'm smart unlike you," Karma insulted, turning back to his own work and licking ice cream.

"Karma, that's my ice cream. I went all the way around the world for that and had to fly through Antarctica to keep it cold," Koro-sensei said, walking down the aisle towards us.

"Oh, sorry," Karma drawled sarcastically. "I didn't realize. It was just sitting there practically begging to be eaten." Koro-sensei came down the aisle and then one of his tentacles exploded when he stepped again. Or slithered or slid. Honestly, I have no clue how he moves.

Karma stood up and took one last lick of the ice cream and then shoved it into Koro-sensei's shirt, smearing it all over his clothes and smirking sadistically.

"I'll be the one to kill you. Don't underestimate me," Karma said before brushing past Koro-sensei and leaving the class. I finally have a sadistic classmate. There was never any in my home. Class was dismissed after that.

"I'm Ashnah," I said, approaching the blue haired pigtail boy.

"I'm Nagisa," the kid replied with a smile, tucking his pencil and notebook in his pocket. "Nice to meet you, Ashnah."

"Yeah. Cool. I heard you talking about Karma earlier when he came here. Are you two friends?" I asked, treading the grounds carefully.

"Yeah. We've known each other for years," Nagisa replied.

"What's he like?" I asked.

"Karma's a bit sadistic I suppose. He was suspended from beating a group of kids up for picking on a senior here. This is his first time back. Class 3-E is the class for the hopeless students here without a future. He's kinda like a delinquent. But he's a nice kid once you get to know him," Nagisa said with a shrug. "He's smart too, but I'm pretty sure he likes fighting."

"He's a sadist, huh?" I mused with a wry smile. "Perfect. Can't wait to get to know him."
