Karma was headed straight towards Nagisa and I, his footsteps were calm and silent as he approached us.
"Ashnah, I'll meet you at the cliff in ten minutes. Alone. You'll thank me," Karma said casually before walking away in the direction of the cliffs.
"The hell," I mused.
"Do you know what he wants to talk to you about?" Nagisa asked me.
"I don't know that shit," I muttered.
"You should go see him before he changes his mind again," Nagisa said.
"True. Thanks," I said, running towards the cliff side. I crashed into Karma's back on my way there and it sent the two of us tumbling and rolling down towards the cliff. We landed right at the edge and I pressed my hand to the ground to sit up. The rock gave out under my hand and collapsed. My breath left me and my eyes widened as I started to freefall over the edge of the cliff. Adrenaline spiked through me, causing every bone and nerve in my body to heat up until I nearly started sweating out of fear. I felt a hand latch onto mine and my breath hitched. I looked up and saw Karma leaning over the edge and gripping my hand as tightly as he could.
"You frickin promised me that you'd take me to see your world. You promised. I can't let you die here and now," Karma said. "You promised, so I'll hold you to it." He latched his other hand onto mine and started hoisting me up over the edge after a few minutes. I rolled over him and laid there, my eyes shut and my breath coming out hurriedly and rushed as I tried to calm myself down. A few minutes later and my heart didn't seem to pound so loudly in my chest. I turned to look over at Karma. His eyes were closed and he was still breathing heavily. His hair was slightly pressed against his forehead and damp with a light sheen of sweat.
"You wanted to talk to me, right?" I said, gaining enough breath to speak.
"Let's get away from the edge first. I don't know if I could pull you up again. You're heavy," Karma said.
"That's rude," I said. "But I get it. It's because I carry around five knives on me. One attached to each of my wrists, one on each of my ankles, and another one at my waist. They're all metal and each of them weigh about a pound so it adds an extra five pounds. That and I have extra materials on me at all times. I've got a couple of granola bars on me, the knives, plus a couple of darts and a gun and ammunition. All of that and the extra materials I got to destroy Koro-sensei."
"No wonder you felt so heavy," Karma mused out loud, a light laugh on his tone making me freeze. It's the first time I've heard him laugh.
"Yeah. But you said you wanted to talk with me alone," I said.
"Yeah. I've been thinking about how you got here in the first place. It was a piece of paper with the name of someone here, right? You said it out loud and you appeared here with that person. So I thought that if I found a piece of paper with a name on it from your world, it might take you back," Karma explained, sitting up. "And I found one. The name says Kardama. Like your last name."
"Do you actually think this will work?" I asked quietly. "I've grown to like this place. And the people here a lot too. Especially you. You seem to be the only one who actually understands me in my opinion. My parents want to marry me off to some rich guy for money."
"Harsh," Karma said. "But even so, you should still go back to your world. I'll try and find a way to visit someday." He handed me a piece of paper, said the name on it and then stepped back away from me, a small smile on his face as he lifted his hand in goodbye.
"Wait!" I shouted. "Karma!" A flash of white surrounded me and I was placed back in the alley I was in when I was transported to the other world. "Karma," I whispered, already missing the comfortable feeling of being around someone like me.
I left the alley-way and walked back towards my house, memories and thoughts swirling through my brain the entire walk home. As I neared my mansion, I could see my bedroom window and I braced myself how my parents would react to me coming back. I would need to think quickly to create a lie believable enough. My parents started screaming my name when I went through the door, both of them hugging me and clinging to me as their hot tears soaked through my shirt.
"What happened? We've been searching for you for two days!" my mother cried out.
So I guess every week in Karma's world is a single day here. That's good at least. "I was walking home when I got lost. My phone was dead and I didn't know where I was. I think I took a wrong turn somewhere and ended up heading in the opposite direction from home. I found a shop I recognized earlier today and used it to get directions back here. And here I am," I said with a small smile, my mind thinking about Class 3-E and not about my parents anymore. For the rest of the summer, I agonized over what the others were doing, my connections with my friends were cut off, and then school started up again. I really wish Karma was here right now. A new school year for me as a Sophomore and a new school. I guess it's not that bad, but still.
I really wish Karma was here right now.
