Losing the FA Cup final had taken a toll on Mason. He was blaming himself, constantly bullying himself, and being negative towards himself for missing the important penalty, despite everyone telling him that it wasn't his fault.
He hadn't been answering any phone calls or texts, showing up to training, or even going out of the house since it happened. He hasn't been on social media either; he doesn't want to be, not when he's targeted and bullied there too by his own fans.
Many of his teammates have tried reaching out and even gone over to his house, but he's completely shutting them out, leaving them worried. He doesn't want to talk to anyone, and he doesn't want to hear anything from anyone about how it's not his fault, because at the end of the day, the only person who can make him accept it is himself, and right now he is broken.
Hazel was also worried about Mason. She had sent a text after the loss, not knowing if he wanted to talk on the phone. But he hadn't replied to her either, and she understood why, but it still didn't make her worry less.
It had gotten to the point where Reece couldn't take it anymore. Coming to training and not seeing Mason there or hearing anything from him was difficult. It was for everyone.
That's when he got the idea of asking Hazel for help. It was well known that Mason always felt better talking to her, and if anyone could at least try and talk to Mason, it was her.
He had taken himself to the restaurant after training, hoping Hazel was working there today. He looked around but could only find Anna.
"Reece?"
"Anna, hey," he smiled as he walked over to the desk she was standing behind.
"Hey, everything ok?"
"Yeah, I'm good. I was just wondering if Hazel is here," he asked, getting straight to the point.
"Yeah, she's in the kitchen; I'll bring her out," she smiled.
"Thank you!" Reece waited as Anna went to grab Hazel. He stood there for a few seconds until Hazel finally showed up.
"Reece? Hi," she smiled as she walked through the door.
"Hi, Hazel, I hope I didn't disturb."
"No, not at all. Is everything ok?" She asked, concerned; she could tell Reece was being a bit tense and sounding worried.
He sighed as he leaned over the desk with his arms resting on it. "It's Mason."
"Is he ok?" Hazel asked and is definitely worried now.
"I don't know; he's not answering anyone's phone calls, and he's not opening the door for anyone; we're all worried about him," he rambled.
"What about his parents? Don't they have an extra key to check on him?" She asked concerned.
"No one is able to reach out to him; he's gone completely invisible."
"What can I do?" She asked
"I was wondering if you could try and talk to him about anything."
"I sent him a text after the loss, but I don't think he's going to answer me." Hazel truthfully said
"Just try and call him, text him, maybe something you know can cheer him up. I know he has his phone next to him; he's just good at ignoring," Reece said.
