If Y/n knew one thing, it is that this was going to be a long night. 2 am at the club. The music visibly shook the wall that she was leaning on. All she could do, to make it at least tolerable, was take a huff from her cigarette. Y/n was prepared for this moment. Having a full pack stacked into her small black purse. She originally wasn't planning ongoing. Too much of her time has been wasted going out. Two nights in a row felt like a drag. But, when her small friend basically begged her to go, promising her they would leave whenever she felt an ounce of anxiety, she caved.
But it's 2 am, and she is still here.
Drunk people passed by.
One after another, being unable to even walk straight, let alone talk. It was amusing when a girl with her hair frizzed out and her eyeliner mushed asked her for a cigarette. Y/n gave the stranger an emphatic smile after giving it. Knowing that it would be a matter of time till her friend would stumble out searching for her with glazed-over eyes because of the amount of alcohol she was consuming.
She rolled her neck, trying to release some tension. Ticking her cigarette, making the ashes fall next to her.
"You're not allowed to stand here. " She jumped, snapping her head to meet dark brown eyes. "Sorry?"
"You're not allowed to stand here. " He repeated
It took her a while to respond. She was too fixated on his very bushy eyebrows that forward into each other. He was annoyed.
" I'm just smoking?" she answered
His eyes flickered to her hand. "I see that. I'm not blind."
" Okay?" Y/n was confused." What's the problem then."
"The problem is. " He stepped closer." I'm standing next to you and all that smoke is getting in my face. Don't appreciate it, mate. "
"hm. I can stop smoking. " She lifted her cig to her face, she was almost done anyway.
"Or, you can move. I was here first so, " She took a drag," sucks to suck, I guess. "
It took her a minute to look in his direction again; it got remarkably quiet. She gave a swift side-eye and was met with a smirk. "You think you're funny." He looked her down lazily, and her breath hitched.
He was not bad to look at. Y/n was not that quickly persuaded by men easily. Too many were too proud, of what they even were. Nothing more but silly little man with mommy issues or just terrible human beings.
Not that she even knew if he would be an ounce better, He was just easier to look at, so undoubtedly this was more entertaining than Y/n would like to admit.
"I'm sorry, but you look like someone who smokes." She said.
And he smiled, actually smiled. Corners met his puffy cheeks, showing off his teeth, which made his eyes slender a bit more than they already were. He let out a rough laugh." I do. I wanted to ask for a smoke."
She deliberately nodded her head and stated, "You wanted to ask me for a smoke. " She grabbed her package. "Funny way of asking."
She does not know why she even was giving this man one. Why she even was eager to have him stay longer. He shrugged, "You were blowing your smoke in my face." he grabbed the cigarette she had out for him, took his pink lighter in his pocket, and lit it on.
She watched it happen and cursed herself when he noticed.
The smirk formed rapidly, "hm." he hummed, raising his eyebrow.
She twisted her head and rolled her eyes, hoping on everything her face was getting warm because her jacket was too thick.
She took her cigarette number 2 and stuck it between her lips.
Before any other movement, his hand was in front of her with his lighter.
She reached out, but he pulled away gently.
Oh.
She leaned in as he came closer to cup the cigarette and lighter. It took three tries for it to turn on.
Three tries for him to stand completely in front of her.
" So. Does the party suck?"
She shrugged, "It's cool. Just so late." another puff.
He gave her a bemused look. "What are you? A grandma?"She smiled, "No. Just an employed adult. Crazy concept, I know."
It was his turn to roll his eyes. She caught the glimpse of a smile.
Still in front of her, he crossed his arms precisely, with the cigarette still burning;
He was tall, really tall. It hit her. He was glaring down at her. That his shoulder effortlessly met her forehead. And how broad they were, too.
The hand holding the cig was big enough to cover so much.
She bit the inside of her cheek.
"You work tomorrow?""No. Today, well before I came here."
"I didn't ask."
She scoffed, "what I will ask though is if you're free tomorrow."
" For you? Nope."
He smiled, finishing his cig and dropping it on the floor between them.
" cool," he grabbed her phone that was resting in her other hand.
And honestly, she could've pulled it back, but she just let his gigantic hands graze over hers.
"What are you doing?"
"Calling myself," his phone rang in his leather jacket." So you have my number and I have yours." he said.
" So you know, I'm going to text you tomorrow. Ask you out. And if you don't answer," He moved back casually, throwing his head back a bit. "Then that's that." His gaze fell on her face again, smiling. Returning to a normal position. "If you do well. You'll have fun."
She didn't answer him.
She just watched her friend stumble out of the club drunk, loudly.
Her name was called, or more yelled. Y/n sighed, like an automatic queue she started getting ready to take care of whatever her friend was on till they were home.
"Y/n? Nice name. I'm Calum.'" She heard behind her.
"I didn't ask. ", giving him one last look. Watching him stare her down and shake his head, laughing when she felt her friend tuck on her drunkenly.-------------------
