Dean couldn't hide from the atrocity that had fallen upon him. No amount of retreating into himself could displace what had happened. What was happening. The only thing he knew was that the horror film he was watching now was preferable to the one he'd experienced after the wedding. The experience was something that would stay with him forever.
He raped you, Dean's thoughts exploded emotional pain. Don't tiptoe around the subject. He fucking raped you.
The words brought on fresh pain and a wave of nausea and the sting of recent memories. Images of his body betraying his every wish were enough to boil his blood.
He didn't even have to hold me down. He made me do everything-
Refocusing his thoughts on what was happening around him, he found himself faced with something just as despairing. With his own hands, he was bringing a wave of destruction to the city. He watched as beams of light exploded from his palms and decimated buildings that his fellow man had built with their bare hands. People fled from him in terror- something he never imagined would happen. Not since the debacle at the airport when Steve and Tony's feud had divided the superhero community had he felt this measure of guilt. Then, it had been two small children who had been terrified of him. But now it was an entire city.
At his sides, Jean, Kyle Elizabeth and Sue flew through the air and added to the absolute devastation that was taking place. Below, Medusa was using her hair to tear apart anything in her path, a flurry of vibrant red locks twisting around cars, bikes, and street lights. Jessica unleashed her pheromones, inciting further panic as she directed bio-electrical blasts at anything Medusa hadn't destroyed.
A child stumbled over his feet and fell onto the pavement, hitting his knee and crying out in frightened pain. Throwing a glance over his shoulder, his tear-filled eyes took in the sight of people who had grown up calling his heroes. And now they were running him down.
Please, no, Lumen thought. Please don't make me hurt him!
The boy scrambled to get up as his mother hurried hurried to him. She reached the boy, pulled him tight to her chest, and spun around, giving her backside to danger.
Dean 's hands lit up menacingly and a stream of light escaped.
Set, you bastard!
His hand swerved ever so slightly at the last second and the blast carved the pavement at the woman's feet.
What just happened?
Before he had time to ponder on this, a figure dropped down between him and the cowering woman and her child. Slowly, the figure stood to his full height and looked up at Lumen.
Thor. Oh, please help us!
"Get to safety," Thor beckoned to the woman, who nodded sharply and took off running.
A building nearby started to cave in, it's weakened infrastructure collapsing. Ant-Man sprang up to his giant size and shoved the building aside, preventing it from falling onto the street and the crowd of people that Hawkeye and Bucky were now ushering to safety.
The brides slowed their pursuit and lowered themselves to the ground. Forming a line, they observed as Thor was joined by Cap, Reed, Blackagar, Cyclops, Iron Man, and Michael.
"We've got the majority of the people evacuated," Falcon reported in Cap's ear.
"Copy that," Cap said in a tight voice, his eyes never leaving Aegis. "You and the others stand down. For now."
Silence fell upon the groups as they took each other's measure. The urge to run to their lost loved ones was strong, but the stark change in their appearance and behavior kept them from moving. Standing there in their new attire, the seven brides had developed another startling feature since their abduction and wedding ceremony- their skin was now a sallow green and their eyes were snakelike and predatory.
