Many Many Years Ago:
Deaton and Morrell were twin druids who were power hungry and hated being at the bottom of the power scale. They wanted more and had it all planned out but then a spark–high powered at that–moved to town. The twins couldn't stand it that someone was more powerful and that doesn't even take into account the fact that the spark has a son who is even more powerful.
Belief, however, is a powerful thing and if people think that the druids are more powerful than they really are. it only works in their favor. Of course, the sweet victory when the older spark leaves–shockingly abandoning the child–is so pleasing to the druids that they don't go after her. She's not the prize after all. No, the prize is the little sparkling with so much untapped potential and overwhelming power. They will do anything to get their hands on it. Even if it means killing him.

It was something they had been planning for years because despite not looking like it, they are just over a hundred years old. They've been working on this since they first inherited their abilities. They killed their parents when they realized they weren't as powerful as they needed to be.
Beacon Hills was easy enough to integrate into. The people barely paid them any attention, too eager to accept the humble vet and his twin sister who would be a nurse at the hospital.
Over the course of their long life–lengthened by the death of their parents–they had debated what being to call upon. They needed something strong but also malleable. It was just three years into their lives in Beacon Hills when they found their being. According to the book they found, Void is a chaos demon who lives on strife, dissent, chaos and mischief. They share twin gleams of glee. Perfect.

The druid twins waited until they had the cover of darkness before slipping into the preserve. It wasn't easy to find the sentient tree, but they refused to give up and when they finally found it, they didn't waste any time carving the book's indicator mark to prepare to summon the demon.
Almost immediately the tree showed signs of decay and it filled them with glee. Their plan was in motion and with the elder spark gone they would have unbridled access to the child spark. Or so they thought.

After five years of attempts to get closer to the sparkling they realized direct contact wouldn't work. A man they'd never heard of named Noah was the town sheriff and he rarely let the boy out of his sight. It made things much more difficult.
At least it did, until Morrell called upon an old friend or two for assistance. They had watched as the boy grew close with a girl named Allison Argent and how another boy watched from the sidelines with envy. Well, they could work with that.

Scott McCall was easily manipulated and with promises to get him the pretty girl his heart so desired he agreed to help them get to the young spark–Stiles–with pleasure. At first both Stiles and the girl, Allison, were hesitant and suspicious which impressed the druid twins since Scott was like a giant puppy. While they may have let Scott spend time with them, they did not let the boy as close as they let each other.
It pissed the boy off and he ranted and raved at the druids about breaking their promises to him. It's that night when the boy is fourteen that Deucalion shows up and bites him. After that the druids kill the alpha and offer him as a twisted sacrifice to the rapidly rotting sentient tree. The alpha spark that had been inside him makes the perfect twist to their not so innocent offering. Scott became a were and his injury led him to Stiles who helped treat him. However, the young spark didn't realize he helped heal the other boy with his spark and not the items in the first aid kit. It connected them and slowly but surely Scott was in.
