(Remind me again why I have to watch these orphans of the Naga clan for the entire day?!) (I need you to see that everything has a meaning.) (The meaning of this being?)(That is for you to figure out.) (Come on! There could be an infinite number of meanings!)(There is never an infinite number of something. What we call infinite, is simply something we haven't found an end to.) (That makes no sense, infinite is called infinite because it's infinite!) (...Just take care of those two, oh, and give them a name.) (It's going to be hard!)(Why? Because there's an infinite number of names for them?) (...Low blow old man.)
(Hungry.)
Was the only thought running through the knight's head as he staggered through the dark alley. Dozen of arrows stuck out of the knight's back, his arms laid lifeless on the floor, dragging the cobblestone path along with him. The pain no more, for it had long vanished, leaving only an unsatisfying hunger.
(Hide.) his mind shouted and he complied, diving into the darkest shadows of the alley. Just before a convoy of carriages and guards trotted down the street.
(Life, fleshy life, meat, MEAT!)
His mouth drooled and his fangs grinded together as saliva and spit along with blood flowed down from the shutters of his helmet and dripped to the floor, which the knight caught without even bending down.
(Find first. Eat later.) the knight reminded himself as if it was a mantra. Wiping the drool off his helmet shutters before retreating further into the darkness of the alley
Meanwhile.
Sweat flew down the knight's face as he ran down the corridors. Past the servants, maids, and guards on patrol of the inner castle wall.
(Screwed! I'm screwed! I knew I should have gotten to bed sooner! Stupid, stupid!) the knight screamed, not stopping to look where he was going. Causing him to crash into another knight, throwing himself to the floor.
"Rookie!" a booming voice cried out before letting out a good-tempered laugh." Watch where you're going!" the knight blinked his eyes rapidly, his blood still pumping with adrenaline.
Though he could only see the bottom half of the knight, from what he could seethe knight seemed to be a veteran. His arms were chock full of battle scars and deep gashes and his armor carried a bright orange X. Which was a specialty of armor that most veterans during the war would wear. Putting all this together, including the veteran's voice, the knight could tell exactly who the veteran was.
"Sir Derek, good morning!" said the knight looking up at an old man in about his early sixties, his eyes a bright amber color and hair a dark grey.
"Morning to you too Gavin," said Derek extending a handout, which Gavin accepted with gratitude.
After Derek pulled Gavin up he noticed that they were on the edge of the wall.
"If I wasn't here you would have gone flying off the edge," said Derek with a chuckle. Gavin's face flushed red, he was too embarrassed to look Derek in the eyes.
"Now, where exactly are you running to so urgently that you almost-"
"Lady Katherine!" Gavin cried out suddenly, taking off down the outer walls.
"Wha-"
Derek watched in silence as Gavin dashed down the top of the outer walls in confusion before taking in what Gavin said in full consideration.
