authors pov.

the misunderstood kids all dug, y/n digging a tiny bit faster than x-ray. y/n was a fast digger. not as fast as zero, but close as hell to being just as fast.

but that was only because she zoned out.

she was thinking of what barfbag had told her. how he wanted to leave. she hardly knew anyone except squid. but barfbag had seemed as sweet as ever. and she liked that about him. sure, his name was barf bag, and sure, it could get bad, but she thought he deserved better. falsely accused of so many things, and he was the only one she actually was the most fond of. except zero, who hadn't talked much as well as y/n. but they both seemed too nice to even be real. they didn't perv her out, well actually, since their hearing about why she was at camp green lake in the first place, none of them really wanted to get in her way. but she was nice, if she actually liked you.

"hey hey hey barfbag what're ya doin?" squid asked. y/n snapped her head to see what the fuss is about, as well as zigzag, x-ray, armpit, and magnet did. barfbag was gonna leave, he was reaching to get bit by a rattlesnake. dumb decision, dude.

he yelled out in pain while y/n and zigzag got out of their pretty much done holes. they ran to get help, but when they came back, it had seemed as if barf bag had already passed out, but he was doozin'. mr. sir drove him back quickly to get him to safety, if that was even possible.

"y/n, you just starin' into space or..." armpit trailed, waving his hands in her face. she just looked at him before going back to dig her hole. zero got done first, like always. she finished 10 minutes after he did, and zigzag 5 minutes after y/n. "y/n, you haven't really talked to barf bag, why are you sad?" zigzag asked as he caught up to her. "i just.. i don't know. he seemed really nice." is all she could get out without getting choked up. she only showed her kindness to those she cared about. but she hardly cared about herself. therefore, she would say "it's really hard to care about other people when you don't really care about yourself."

she put her shovel back and zigzag did the same. they went to the wreck room, squid coming up to zigzag and talking to him and playing pool. y/n wanted to see zero. she thought of zero as kind hearted and trustworthy. she just simply didn't know that she didn't mind if zero did something bad. she saw how the older boys treated him. and even though her and some of them were the same age, she still wanted to make sure that zero was included.

she accidently bumped into that lump dude that squid was talking about. "hey, watch yourself punk." lump spat angrily. "if youre wanting to fight," she said, kind of quiet but loud enough for lump to hear. "then throw the punch. i will gladly extend my time on my 3 year sentence only if it means to put you in your place."

lump decided to try and be tough. he threw a punch, and she easily dodged it. she threw a punch, and hit him right on the nose. the fight went on for 20 minutes, and she was beating the shit out if him before she got torn off of his limp body. she sneered at him as he got up, just barely sticking on his feet. he knew better then to tell on her. his excuse would be some shit like "i got hit with a lot of shovels"

she sat to watch a game of pool, the words of change by deftones ran through her mind.

the song reminded her of her biological father, not the lyrics but the meaning. watching a loved one get addicted to drugs and alcohol made her disappointed in her father.

she hummed lightly. she smiled to herself before her tent started walking to the tent. she walked with them. zero came up next to her, "how did you know that song?" he asked her. "i know a lot of songs by deftones by heart. theyre my favorite band." she explained. he nodded and smiled. "can you show me some, or teach me some?" zero asked. she smiled at the young boy, and she nodded her head in agreement.

zero wasn't the smartest kid in the world. he grew up homeless, he didn't have any education, and he had to steal to live. it was sad, but zero was happy with what he had, he was greatful to have one thing over nothing.

camp was starting to grow on y/n. no one really talked to her besides squid and zero. but that was okay with her. she didn't mind teaching anyone anything, and she certainly didn't mind having friends. "hey yo, fuel!" magnet yelled. y/n turned her head around. "yo fuel, you comin for dinner?"

"yea, yea im comin."
