My heart stopped at his words.

Did he just type that?

I rubbed my eyes to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Afterall, my eyelids were really heavy by now.

I looked closely at the the 4 words, and it was still the same as before. I wasn't dreaming!!

I gasped, gripping on to my phone tightly.

What do I say?

What do I do??

My palms started to sweat desperately, making my phone wet.

But before I could respond, my phone vibrated.

And it was just these two simple words that shattered my fragile heart forever.

Ian:
Just kidding :p

The phone fell from my grasp and I started sobbing uncontrollably.

My head hurt, but it was worse than the other time.

How could he play a joke on me like that?

I didn't know if it was Candice, or my dad, or just Ian himself, but everything seemed to make sense now.

My life was a total failure.

I didn't have true friends; my family was in a mess. And the only guy that I ever laid my eyes on... just didn't feel the same way I do.

I didn't even do well academically or physically.

After this... "hearty" cry, I felt so much better, yet demoralised.

Now, I knew not to expect anything from my life, because nothing good ever comes.

It was only then that I glanced at my phone again, and noticed that Ian had sent me another message.

Ian:
My mom is changing house, so I'll be studying at your school. You know the house beside yours is vacant, right? We'll be moving there tomorrow, so yea.

I sighed and hugged my knees tightly, and rocked myself until I fell asleep.

This time, I didn't once wake up or think about Ian, and I'm glad I didn't.

-

Earlier next morning, I heard sharp noises at the corridor, and got up to reprimand whoever was making such a ruckus.

But I stopped when I saw Ian pushing a luggage into the house just beside mine.

I had thought that since it was Saturday, I wouldn't need to face him, but no. He had to ruin my mood in the morning.

It was then that he caught my eye, and he flashed a bright smile.

I couldn't help but smile back, despite the warning in my head.

"Hey, nice PJs," He winked, pushing the luggage in, and closed the door shut in my face.

I glanced down, and blushed furiously. Shit! What do I do?? He saw me in Pajamas...

-

The moment I reached school on Monday, Candice appeared by my side.

"So, how in the world did you get to know Ian?? Are you both close? And do you know his number?"

I sighed, quickening my footsteps, but she still managed to catch up.

"We're childhood friends, and no, I hate him."

I could almost feel Candice smiling. "Good. I'll catch you up in English, and you'll tell me everything about him."

-

In the first lesson, Ian introduced himself to the class, and the teacher had him sit beside me. Me.

I would've been ecstatic a long time ago, but now I knew not to expect anything.

I stared blankly at the sterile white walls of the classroom, and tuned out of the teacher's droning. I just wished to hide somewhere right now, and not sitting down here beside him.

I sighed. This is going to be a long day.
