A first intervention, then a second, then a third... A lot of small interventions, but they had required the involvement of the rig, without necessarily having to ask the PRT to come out.
At 7:30 p.m. the firefighters were finally all back at the firehouse. Maya and Carina still hadn't spoken since the kiss they had exchanged that afternoon.
The entire A-team had gone upstairs and found the table set, Carina behind the stove and the oven heating up.
- "Wait, you made us food?" Vic asked in desperation as her stomach was screaming for food.
-"Yes, I made you lasagna."
- "oh my god this woman is perfect" said Travis rolling his eyes, also hungry.
All the firefighters had reached the floor and they were all cheering for Carina and talking loudly, because they were all in need of food, with no strength to do anything, and this beautiful woman had done that for them.
Maya had gone upstairs with a frown on her face.
-"May I know what all the fuss is about?" She said as she entered the break room.
-"Carina made us food, she made lasagna! Like homemade lasagna!" Dean replied.
The captain's eyes had met the paramedic's and neither of them had spoken. Everyone had fallen silent and some of the firefighters were looking at Carina and the other at Maya.
- "uh, before we go to the table, everyone is going to take a shower" asked the blonde.
-"Oh yes, of course! Right away" said Andy to get them all moving.
Maya had looked at the brunette again.
-"Captain Bishop..." Carina began, but the Olympic champion had turned on her heels and walked downstairs.
-"I'll be right back," Carina said to Taryn, who she had been with the whole time.
She had gone downstairs and knocked on the closed office door.
- "come in."
Carina had entered the office and closed the door, leaning against it.
- "captain..."
Maya had gotten up from behind her chair where she had just sat and walked around the office.
-"Listen, Dr. DeLuca. I apologize for earlier, it was unprofessional of me, I shouldn't have."
- "Which part are you talking about? The part where you yelled at me in intervention ? Or the part where you came and yelled at me in my PRT when we got home? For kissing me? Or for leaving me there, stranded, alone, after that kiss for four hours?"
- "everything. I shouldn't have talked to you like that, like I have for the past month. I shouldn't take my frustration out on you. As you said yourself, it was Chief Ross who brought you in, not you who imposed yourself.... And for that I apologize. And I apologize for... Kissing you, I don't know what came over me. I give you a thought about it, about you and Dr. Aurora and the next thing I know I'm... I kiss you, it was unprofessional. And I just... I don't like to be a thief and run away from an embarrassing situation, but this call, I think it's timely and it's better" the more she spoke and the closer she got to the brunette.
- "an embarrassing... situation? ... I wouldn't have described this moment as embarrassing..." She said hurtly before picking herself up and taking a serious look: "In that case, thank you for your apology Captain Bishop, and let's work so that no... embarrassing situation, happens again in the future. I would hate to be, more than I already am, the reason for your discomfort."
She had left the office without giving Maya a single additional glance.
