- I finally got an update. Sorry much doesn't happen :(
3 Months Later
Jenny still hasn’t fully talked with me since we had the argument. But we were talking more than when she was still angry at me. Shrugging on a brown leather jacket I had started moving my stuff into his trailer. Since Emily had blabbed out his little secret that he wanted me to move in together. “Alright so we can put most of your things in the cabinets. And we can share the bed if you want or you can sleep on the couch if you want.” He explained sitting one of the boxes down.
“I don’t mind sharing a bedroom with you. I know you wouldn’t take advantage of me. I wish my sister could see that.” I responded back, tucking hair behind my ear finally looking him in the eye.
Beau sat down on the couch and I followed him where he draped his arm over my shoulder. Moving my head over I laid it down against his chest sighing heavily. "Do you want me to try and talk with her. Convince her that I'm not hurting you by any means."
"Beau, I don't know what else to say. I mean either she can trust me that you really care about me or she will just forget me altogether." Slumping my shoulders I lifted my head up with an annoyed sigh. Cassie had called me one night saying that she had tried to talk to her but even she was no use. So I didn't know what else to try at this point.
He shifted on the couch feeling his phone vibrating in his jacket pocket. He was wearing a blue flannel underneath a blue jacket with white fur on the outside. "That was my ex saying something was off with Avery. I'm gonna go check it out."
"Can I come with you, Beau?" I asked watching him begin to put on his boots.
He glanced over his shoulder nodding towards the front door where I got to my feet grabbing my gun and clipping it to my belt too following him outside to his truck. "Sure, darlin'."
Beau and I drove to Avery's hotel that he was living in since Carla and him weren't on speaking terms after she found out about his job. Stepping off the elevator my boots hit the carpet before we turned a corner seeing Avery and someone tightly dragging him outside his hotel room by the arm. "Avery. Who's your friend?"
"His friend is none of your concern." The gun holding him cocked a gun turning around to face us making me rest my right hand on my gun in my holster.
Moving my other hand onto my hip Beau and I shared the same look before focusing our gaze onto the guy. "Well, actually, it is, seeing as I'm the sheriff and all."
"I never shot a sheriff before." The guy smirked, moving his gun to point at me for a few seconds where I straightened my back needing to remain calm. I wasn't good at quickly drawing a gun, at least not anymore when John Wayne tried to kill me. I would hesitate when it came to people that I really cared about. "I must say she is a fine woman. It would be a shame to shoot her and get her all bloody."
Slowly I started drawing my gun from my holster, never taking my eyes off of the guy holding Avery. "I wouldn't want that either. So how about you let him go and we have a normal non gun conversation yeah."
"Well, we're not gonna do that, gunslinger." Beau rested his hands on his hips with a light smirk.
Avery raised his freehand looking back at his holding with his voice breaking a little. "Beau, please, just turn around, walk away. I'm handling it. I'm handling things, alright?
"No, Avery, I think you're pretty much done handling things. But you know what, big fella? It's your lucky day. You can have him. I'll catch you later." Beau tilted his head where I pushed my gun back into my holster following him when he turned his back to the guy for a second.
I heard the guy cock his gun about to fire it at us, making me call his name. "Beau!" He spun around on his feet drawing his gun killing the guy where he collapsed with Avery standing there confused.
"Sorry about this Avery. But you've got some explaining to do. We're taking you to the station." I walked up drawing my handcuffs before I shoved him over to Beau when I hit the elevator button.
Once we were back in the station we put Avery in the interrogation room. Shutting the door behind me Beau sat down leaving me standing. "You see, these people, they don't forgive, and they don't forget. And the ones that steal from them rarely die alone, which means you have put Carla and you have put my daughter into danger. Did you even think about that?"
"Everything I've done......has been to protect my family. That's all you need to know." Avery spoke, lifting his gaze up to me. "I would have expected better from you. You seemed like a nice girl who would have given me the benefit of the doubt."
Resting my hands on the table I met his gaze slumping my shoulders. "I am Avery. But I also don't deal with stealing a bunch of money. I mean seriously did you think that this would be an easy grab."
"Breaking the law is nasty business, she's right about that. You've made a real mess of my family." Beau scoffed, leaning forward with his elbows on the table.
Avery just crossed his arms over his chest glaring at us. "You, on the other hand, you've made quite the tidy mess, haven't you? killing that man put us all in more danger. And now I'd very much like to speak to my lawyer." Beau kicked the chair away opening the door where I followed him outside knowing we had to do what the law said and let him go.
A few hours after work we were sitting outside of the trailer. Beau had two lawn chairs sitting close together with a blanket thrown over both of us. Laying my head on his chest once more I intertwined my hand with his looking up at the stars. "Do you really think he is planning something. He doesn't seem like the type to not panic over something."
"I got a bad feeling about all this. It's like in Houston with Randy. Like something is... is comin', and I'm... powerless to stop it." Beau sighed heavily, squeezing my hand in his.
Shifting in his comfortable embrace, his green eyes focused on me. He had told about what happened to him and his partner before he came to Big Sky. I had never lost a partner but he shouldn't blame himself so much. "Randy's death was not your fault. Accidents happen and you did everything that you could have."
"He was my partner, and I let him down. And then... then I wasn't there for Carla and I wasn't there for Emily….I mean what happens if this thing with Avery goes bad and something happens to you, Mallory." He blurted out reaching up resting a hand to my cheek where I leaned into his touch.
Running my hand through his hair he leans his forehead down onto mine when I whisper. "They can’t blame you for leaving, Beau. Carla and Emily still know how much you want to protect them."
"That don't make up for the way I checked out. And I'm telling you, this thing with Avery...this isn't over by a long shot." He sniffed through some tears until I leaned forward slowly kissing him.
He pressed his lips onto mine moving his arms more closely around my waist pulling me closer. Wrapping my arms around his neck I deepened the kiss hearing him moan when I tugged on his locks. He moved one hand through my hair getting the same reaction from me until I broke the kiss painting for air. "Beau, I know that this isn't over. But we are going to figure this out together."
