Sitting my sandwich down I saw my sister leave the station going to find Cassie. They were handling a missing backpacker and something else that I wasn't sure about. Intertwining my hands together and resting my chin on top of I was trying to not act nervous about this. About the fact that Beau and I had a date tonight without my sister knowing. My phone rings so I picked it up hearing the cowboy I had called to set up the date. Beau didn't know that I had changed where the date was really at. "Hello, is this Cormac Barnes?"
"Yes can I ask who this is." A deep voice replied through the phone where I could hear a slight southern tone.
Holding the phone up to my ear I glanced over to Beau's office thankfully seeing it was closed. Things would go swell if he didn't know what was happening tonight. "Mallory Cessna. My sister is Jenny Hoyt. Can I come over and see the place in say an hour?"
"Sure that's totally fine. I'll text you the address." He responded before he hung up the phone. Grabbing my cameo jacket I exited the door driving to the campgrounds seeing a bunch of people camping since it was an event. Closing the door to my truck I walked up shoving my hands in my pockets of my jeans staring at the beautiful mountains in front of me. It reminds me so much of JW's family ranch.
Suddenly I heard a horse galloping towards me. Slowly turning on my heels I smiled seeing a guy with long golden brown hair and green eyes. He was wearing a dark tan hat that had an orange band in the middle of it. The cowboy dismounted his horse, flashing me a grin. "Hey there, you must be Mallory right?"
"Yep, that's me." I extended my hand shaking his. "Nice to meet you Cormac."
He gently grabbed the reins of his horse tugging it closer to us while we had our conversation. "So you said over the phone that you're going on a date with the sheriff. And decided to move the date out here to ride horses. Have you ever rode one before?"
"I - uh yeah. Once with my ex boyfriend." I tilted my head to the side, tucking hair behind my ear smiling towards him. "He doesn't seem to like all this stuff but since he's from Texas I assume he's been on a horse a couple times."
Cormac chuckled, offering me his freehand to help me up onto the horse. "Here allow me to help you. Then I'll go saddle you another once I think you've got the hang of it." Grabbing part of the saddle I grunted, swinging my other leg over the saddle. He led the horse into the barn getting on his own horse handing me a light brown cowgirl hat. "Try that on, Mallory."
Flipping the hat over I gently sat it on my head raising a brow hoping I remembered how to put it on right. "Good right?"
"Yeah, let's ride." Cormac kicked his horse and I did the same following him towards the trail where he showed me the best spots to take Beau that were safe enough. Hours later I kicked my horse in the belly recognizing his truck parked beside mine.
The wind blowing through my hair with the hat almost falling off my head. But I felt a rush being back on a horse. I haven't been on one since John Wayne tried to kill me before he died. Beau closed his car door giving me a confused look seeing me quickly run up on the horse dismounting while it had barely stopped flinging my arms around his neck kissing him quickly. "Hey Texan. Were you surprised to see me on a horse?"
"I was, darling." He mirrors my smile wrapping his arms around my waist. "I must say when you said you changed our date plans I didn't expect this."
Tipping my hat up a little I giggled nervously. "Do you not like it. I am really hoping you like it, Beau."
Beau leans forward kissing me gently wrapping his arm around my waist walking me back over to the two horses set up for the two of us. He climbed onto his horse and I got onto mine. He was wearing a light flannel shirt with his dark brown sheriff's hat before we both rode off into the woods. Closing my eyes I sighed in relief enjoying the feeling of being outdoors again on a horse. "Woo, let's rest. I can't believe you know how to ride a horse. I gotta say I don't entirely like the whole camping thing but this...this is nice."
"My ex taught me. I am glad that you like it though. You know for a Texan you are rocking riding a horse." I smirked seeing him look down for a second, blushing a little.
He slowly dismounted his horse walking over to me, placing his right hand over mine, making me look into his eyes deeply. I smiled leaning down still sitting on my horse kissing him until he tried to deepen it. "You are pretty good looking with a cowgirl hat you know that, Mallory." He mumbled before I quickly dismounted my horse wrapping my arms around his neck deepening the kiss.
Beau wrapped his arms around my waist tugging me closer to his chest. Our hats hit one another but I knocked his off when my fingers ran through his locks where we broke it panting for air grinning brightly. "So what do you say we finish this date at my place with some beers, Mal. My little cowgirl."
"I'd love to, Beau." We saddle our horses once more racing the other back to his truck, our laughter running through the woods.
