NOX, I'VE BEEN PRACTICING his name on my tongue since his blond superior uttered that simple word, a scoff passing through me at the thought of how perfectly it suited him. The dark was intimidating in itself, every looming shadow sparking fear in one's soul, leaving you restless and paranoid, similar to his mere presence — an infuriating presence at that."We're sorry if we came across as a little harsh. We're not usually like that, I promise," the soft-spoken blonde apologized as she walked beside me, her sister following suit.
"It's understandable — I'm still surprised I got here in the first place," what had been meant to be a dry joke turned into reality, for I was now lost more than ever. It terrified me how quickly I had abandoned everything in my path for the chance at getting even a glimpse of what was once a failing dream, it truly made me wonder if I was not as anchored to this reality as much as I should've been.
The edge in my movements hadn't diminished the slightest, my mind still alert as we walked through the long hallways that separated every room in the building. Although my anxiety had been at an all-time high for the past hour, being surrounded by someone other than the opposite sex acted as somewhat of a relief — the duo lived to represent the perfect imagery of ing and yang. Pyro, whom I learned to be the oldest of the two, was the epitome of deadly beauty, with her midnight hair and sharp, vixen eyes she could easily trap anyone with her mere essence, whereas the bubbly air of the blonde was as refreshing as it was intimidating.
"We know it's not easy to be in a room full of men staring down at you," the dark-haired beauty pitched in with an understanding tone, her gaze electrifying "So don't hold back if you have any questions or needs, you're one of us now," she offered a kind smile, opposing the murderous look she wore as she stared down the brooding man with an affinity for annoying those around him.
Cryo's bright eyes twinkled with hope as she latched onto her sister's arm, her blonde curls framing her toothy smile to perfection "I can't believe there's finally another girl around here, it's been ages since we've had a proper conversation with someone other than the guys," a simple observation, yet vague enough to spark my interest.
A soothing wave cascaded over my features at her confession, the small act of honesty creating a sense of safety between us "How come?" I asked, pondering over my words in order to keep the light air afloat.
Her opening sentence was cut off by the sharp corner in our way, the two sisters switching places as Pyro's dark demeanor replaced the blonde's bubbly conduct, an involuntary shiver running down my spine as she cast a flitting glance from above me "What she means is that with all the missions we've been on, the chances of talking to someone without the intention of killing them have been slim so far," the words rolled off her tongue with ease, the topic of murder as dull as the weather.
