"DO YOU KNOW WHY you're here?" Sanctus, the once-unknown blond spoke carefully, his gaze never leaving mine as he sat down at the metal table, opposite my rigid form."Because your lap dog tased me?" I frowned when I hit a scarred spot on my wrist, my fingers going over the sensitive skin that had been freed from the roughness of the rope.
"Call me a lap dog one more time and see what happens," Blue eyes threatened as he advanced towards my seat, Sanctus' eyes rolling back in their sockets for what felt like the hundredth time in the span of a few minutes.
"I mean before that — why did a car drop you off on the doorstep of our base?"
Being at a loss for words had never been my strong suit, I always had something up my sleeve, more so when it came to saving my own skin, but I was yet again struggling to make sense of what was unfolding before my eyes.
"I don't know," I shrugged helplessly, trying my hardest to ignore the deadly stare directed my way.
"You don't — know?" his brows came together in confusion as he registered my response, arms crossing over his chest in defense.
"I get that it sounds strange but I'm being honest," my voice matched the pleading look in my eyes, fingers digging into my palms as I thought of a way to explain what was disorienting my being "I got into this taxi thinking that my mom sent it, and before I knew it I had a gun to my head. I'm just as confused as you are, if not more."
I was being observed from all angles, the faces that were once unknown now embedded into my memory as they scrutinized my responses. My leg bounced underneath the table as I waited with bated breath for any sign of possible freedom, the silence that had fallen over the room deafening.
"She's telling the truth," a feminine voice caught my attention as a head of dark locks stepped into the light "Her body language is all over the place, she's clearly frightened — and you aren't helping the situation," her tone turned harsh as she pointed to the brooding man, whose name I was still yet to discover "Do you even realize who she is?"
At that I couldn't help but arch an eyebrow, not knowing why my existence was of any interest to the group of strange individuals.
"We've been searching for months for a Myers descendant, and now that she's here you plan on scaring her to death?" she scolded the party of men for their ignorance, sharing a look of annoyance with the blonde standing on her right.
"You've been searching for a what now?" I stepped in, my panic overthrown by my sparked curiosity.
"Everybody, back off!" the patience in the blond's tone had been replaced with evident irritation as he voiced his bother, my eyes widening at the sudden change in behavior. We were back to square one, in a room full of strangers and a deadly silence looming over us. I felt like I was closer to the edge of insanity than ever before, and my frustration was increasing with the lack of answers I was desperately longing for.
