There's nothing more enchanting than the way their eyes look as the sun glints off of them

"Lira, you need to focus."My eyes zone in onto Nikola's face, his wild curls blow crazily in the wind,"Sorry, what am I focusing on?"

"FOLLOW ME!" His hand clasps around my wrist as he jerks my body towards his, then running into the house.

The gusts of wind slam the door after we enter.  Water pours off of us from the storm outside, and Niko glares at me incredulously,"YOU COULD'VE GOTTEN HURT," His hands find the sides of my face and bring me closer to him, "YOU'RE RECKLESS."  His nose pressed against mine, his heaving breaths blow against my lips.

"I know. . . I'm sorry."

"Oh Lira, be careful and think more."  He crumples to the floor, giggling madly.I recall the situation and follow suit, leaning against him as the both of us cackle with all the air left in our lungs.

"You really did save me, I could've been hit with a flying tree branch." My eyes wander lazily over to his frame as we settle down.

"I should've just let it happen, then maybe you'd learn to be smarter about when you go out to draw."  His gaze meets mine

"Yeah, yeah, I can't help it-"

His voice echoes mine, "-inspiration is a fickle thing."

"Yes I do recall, after all you say it almost every day."  The lanky boy slouching further against the door, his scarf creeping up to cover his mouth, hiding the mischievous grin that's growing there.  I turn and begin removing my outerwear; coat, boots, scarf, and all, when I feel a presence lurking directly behind me.  Before I have a chance to ask, his hand grasps my shoulder and spins me to face him.  Lowering himself to eye level with me, he plants a quick kiss against my lips and winks, sprinting up the creaky stairs of the old house.  I stand there frozen, processing the events, thinking out loud,

"Nikola you beanstalk, I'll get you back"

Nikola POV

Days went by after that, and I didn't see her at all.  She was gone.  The sun was out but the sky wasn't blue anymore, it was a solemn shade of grey.   My mother knocked on my door as I longingly gazed out my window, observing the wind as it tickles the tips of the tree branches.

"Nikola, are you busy?" Her voice was shaky

"No mum, what's wrong?"

"I...I'm not sure how to say this."

I started to panic, what was wrong, something had to have happened.

"What is it?" I whispered

"Lira. She's.....she's gone."

I fell out of my chair, laughing hysterically, it couldn't be true, she was all well a few days ago....wasn't she? What happened? How could this happen? Did she just move away, that must be it. She seemed so healthy a bit ago.

"She moved?" Tears pricked at the corner of my eyes as I moved my gaze towards my mother. Her face was red and splotchy as tears rolled down her cheeks and she just barely shook her head.

Reality hit me like a train.  Everything was everywhere all at once. The  squirrel skittering on the grass outside, the birds singing that damned song that used to sound so pleasant, the rustle of the leaves on the trees.

"She's-" I inhaled sharply, "-dead."

The fat tears poured down my face, I wrapped my arms around my legs and tried to hide, to hide from it all.

She's...gone.

I've now realized, the light glinting off my eyes was caused by her.

She was my sun...
