Chapter 1: the sudden change
"Ugh! My boss is the worst!" I scream in frustration. "How did he even become a boss with his lazy attitude?" I've been working as a secretary at Victoria's Secret for over three years. People who don't know my situation might think I have a glamorous job, but if they were in my shoes, they'd quit in a heartbeat. The reason? My boss. He's notorious for being a tyrant, firing people on a whim without hesitation. My coworkers are amazed that I've lasted this long. They have no idea how hard I've worked just to keep this position. My motivation? My mother. She's been in the hospital for so long, and the bills are piling up. I need this job to pay them off, so I've become the perfect secretary-handling paperwork professionally, anticipating his needs, and serving him like a king. But it's not like he's without redeeming qualities. If you ask me what he's good at, I'd say he's got looks and, of course, money.
Right now, I'm on the rooftop, taking a breather after my boss dumped a last-minute project on me. I need to get the paperwork done by tomorrow for a meeting with our investors about a new product-a perfume. If only he'd told me earlier, I could've finished it by now! It's already night, and it looks like I won't be getting any sleep. I start heading back to the office, taking the stairs since the elevator's been out of service all day. The last thing I want is to get stuck in it.
My mind wanders as I walk down the stairs, thinking about the tasks ahead, when suddenly, I lose my balance in my high heels. Before I can react, I'm tumbling down the stairs. I brace myself for the hard impact with the floor, but instead of hitting it, I feel someone catch me.
I open my eyes to see who saved me, and I find myself staring at a man. He's in his mid-thirties, with blond hair and jewel-like eyes. I can't help but gaze at him in awe.
"A-um, w-who are you?" I stammer, still in his arms.
The man just stares at me silently, making me feel even more self-conscious. 'Get it together, Minji!' I scold myself. I'm not ugly, but I wouldn't call myself pretty either. I dyed my hair silver-white when I started working here three years ago and always wear red contact lenses because of my blurry vision. The seller recommended red lenses since they were the highest grade, but before I can continue my thoughts, I'm snapped back to reality by his deep voice.
"Shouldn't I be asking that?" he responds.
Wow, he's quite the jerk with that response. But I have the right to ask since this is the building I work at...
That's when I realize I'm no longer in my office building. I'm outside, surrounded by strange buildings that look like something out of a fairy tale!
"Wait! Where am I?!" I scream in shock.
But before I can process what's happening, a small voice interrupts me.
"What's wrong, Daddy?" a little girl who was walking behind the man asks.
My eyes widen as I look at the girl. She's around seven years old, with blond hair and jewel-like eyes, just like the man. When she looks at me, her eyes widen too, taking in my attire. But why do they seem so familiar? My eyes widen further as I remember the manhwa I was reading. But I didn't get to finish it because I ran out of time! Then the man speaks again.
"Now, what are you doing at my palace?" he asks, his eyes glowing.
