Chapter 3: A Test of Wits
What’s with those looks? Are they seriously thinking I’m the saint sent by the goddess just because I happened to fall—out of the sky, of all things?
“Don’t look at me like that,” I say, narrowing my eyes at the emperor, who’s giving me a suspicious glare. Come on, I can practically hear your thoughts! But there’s no way I’m saying that out loud. Even if he reminds me of my old boss, that doesn’t mean I’m not scared. I’m still human, after all!
“Erm... May I know who you are?” the newly arrived knight asks, finally catching his breath. Hmm, he’s quite handsome, isn’t he?
“Nice to meet you, I’m—” I start to introduce myself to my manhwa crush when that damn emperor cuts me off.
“It’s none of your business, Felix,” the emperor snaps, ordering the knight to leave. Of course, Felix looks like he wants to protest, but he’s powerless in front of the emperor.
Who does this guy think he is, threatening my daddy—I mean, Felix—like that?
“O-oh, Papa, I’m sleepy. Let’s go now,” the blonde-haired little girl suddenly says, snapping me out of my thoughts.
Is she trying to help me out? How sweet of her. Wait, how old is she now? She looks older than five. Should I ask?
“I’ll call a maid to escort you to your palace,” the emperor replies, clearly seeing through his daughter’s ruse.
“N-no! Athy isn’t sleepy anymore!” the princess quickly retracts, and I notice a small smirk playing on the emperor’s lips.
Looks like he caught on. Well, I might as well make my exit.
“It seems the princess is tired, so I have no choice but to leave,” I say, standing up from the couch. I grab my imaginary skirt and perform a bow, just like they do in the manhwa.
“Blessings and glory upon the Obelian Empire,” I add, straightening up and heading for the door. But just as I reach for the doorknob, the emperor is suddenly behind me, blocking my way.
“Who gave you permission to leave?” His voice is icy, and when I glance back at him, his face is a cold, emotionless mask.
Great. What did I expect? Hold on—this feels just like one of those manhwas where the female lead gets transported into the story and falls for the male lead! But let’s be real—I’m not the female lead, and there’s no way I’m falling for this cold-blooded emperor. Ugh, I’ve read way too many manhwas.
“I gave myself permission, Your Majesty,” I reply, meeting his gaze. And that’s when it hits me—he’s actually quite handsome.
But I’m not interested! Sure, he’s got a face anyone would love, but he’s got the same awful attitude as my old boss. And I’ve had enough of that to last a lifetime.
In the end, I’m left with no choice but to stay at the Amber Palace.
Amber Palace. It was never mentioned in the manhwa, but according to the maids who welcomed me, it’s where they house special guests—imperial family members from other countries, priests from the temple, and high-ranking officials of Obelia.
Not that I’m complaining. If I left the palace, I wouldn’t even know where to go. Just why did this have to happen to me? I’d be fine with getting injured or even ending up in a hospital, but being transported to another world?
People might think I’m lucky because I get to meet my favorite characters, especially the hotties, but seriously, this is the worst. I don’t even have a place to stay or any money! Sure, if I were familiar with the place, I’d find work easily. But here? I don’t even know how to get out of this palace!
Frustrated, I take out my anger on the pillow, punching it repeatedly. That’s when I hear a knock at the door, making me flinch.
“I’m really tired, so could you save that for later?” I call out. It’s true—I’m exhausted from all the thinking. My head feels dizzy from it all.
“Athy wants to see Sister Minji,” a little voice comes from the other side of the door.
I get up from the bed and open the door to see the little princess standing there. I can’t help but be amazed by her cuteness, even though I just saw her a while ago. She’s clearly using her charm to tame everyone around her, not realizing she’s already done it without even trying.
I kneel down to her level so she can look at me more easily and invite her inside.
“What does the princess want from me?” I ask as she takes a seat. I used to be a busy person, so I appreciate people getting to the point quickly.
“Athy wants to know if you’ve read the fairy tale called ‘Lovely Princess,’” she asks, her innocent face clearly gauging whether I could be of help to her in the future.
“I have read it. Isn’t it about the adorable brown-haired princess who dreamed of having a family?” I answer, watching as her eyes widen in surprise. I can’t help but giggle at her adorable reaction.
‘Lovely Princess’ is indeed about a princess who dreamed of having a family. But we’re not in ‘Lovely Princess’—we’re in ‘Who Made Me a Princess,’ where the girl reincarnates into the book she had read and plans to escape. Oops, I got distracted.
“D-does Sister Minji want choco?” Athanasia suddenly pulls out a chocolate cookie from her sleeve and offers it to me.
I can already tell what she’s planning. She knows I’ve read the story and is trying to tame me with her innocent face. She figures I probably know what happens to Athanasia in the novel and is trying to use that to her advantage.
How clever of her. But she doesn’t need to do this. No matter what, I’ll still help and support you, my darling! Without thinking, I pinch her cute, chubby cheeks, causing her eyes to widen again.
“S-sorry, my hand moved on its own,” I apologize, and she brushes it off like nothing happened. But I notice the mischievous smile on her face, like she’s celebrating her success in her mind.
