Prologue

Moonwatcher flew across the sea, rain pelting down on her obsidian scales. Her mate, Qibli was right behind her, muttering curses.

"Moon." He shouted over the hurricane.

"There's an Island down there!" He yelled, pointing his gold claw to a small visible patch of land.

He dived first, Moon right behind him. Qibli crashed into the waves, salt water spraying his scales. He crawled onto the sticky sand, shaking water off of himself.

"Come on, we need shelter." he said, walking to the center of the island.

Suddenly, a flash of light across the sky caught the moon's sight. She turned her head to see.

"Qibli! There's something in the air!" Moon shrieked.

"It's probably just a seagull." Qibli said, lifting a wriggling fish out of the water. He roasted it, and handed half of it to Moon.

"Although a seagull would sound nice right now." He mumbled. Walking underneath a small palm tree, he set the fish head down and looked at the thunder rumbling across the sky.

"I guess it's worth it." He said gulping the fish down and jumping into the air.

"Be right back." He said, disappearing into the storm.

The rain canceled out most of Qibli's thoughts, but she was still able to make out a vague vision. Blood everywhere, Moon screaming, a green dragon, and most importantly, Qiblis dead body.

She stared up at the sky waiting for Qibli to fly back with a dead bird in his talons. Moon felt as though the world was slipping out of her talons. Would that vision come true? It was so unlikely.

Finally, she heard a scream. A golden body fell from the clouds and dropped into the ocean with a loud splash. her eyes went blank with fear.

"Qibli!" She cried, running towards the body.

"Qibli!" His eyes were closed and she couldn't hear any thoughts coming from his mind. A cloud of blood surrounded his body, and a small thin slash lay across his neck.

Moon ran over to him, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"No!" She sobbed.

"NO!"

"Oh, yes." Said a sad voice behind her.

"Sorry. But he's far dead." Moon swung around to see a large green and golden dragon looking at her, eyes sparkling.

"Sorry about your boyfriend, but he was really asking for it." The dragon shrugged.

"Really I was putting him out of his misery. Flying with someone like you. You really are quite loud right now. "

"You!" Moon cried through angry tears.

"You killed him!"

"Well, he stabbed me with his tail." The strange dragon said, lifting her wing. Moon noticed for the first time that the dragon's wing was shaking painfully. A small line of blood streamed down from a small black cut with poison oozing out. The dragon shuttered.

Is there even a cure? Will I die today? Not like she cares about me. After all, I did kill her boyfriend defending myself. Argh! Stop feeling bad for her! The dragon though worriedly. Sympathy filled the moon as she looked at the strange dragon.
